Jane’s Foster’s Most Surprising Romance Had Nothing To Do With Thor

While Jane Foster might have started as Thor’s girlfriend, her evolution into her own hero saw Jane beginning a surprising romance with another Avenger entirely. Originally keeping her identity a secret as The Mighty Thor, Foster became a member of the 2015 roster of Avengers. During this time, the new wielder of Mjolnir decided to act on impulse, giving in to her attraction to one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

While the bulk of Jane Foster’s journey as Thor was seen in The Mighty Thor by Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman, she did join the Avengers whose adventures were depicted in Mark Waid and Adam Kubert’s All-New, All-Different Avengers series. Formed by Iron Man, the Mighty Thor joined Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Miles Morales’ Spider-Man, Sam Alexander’s Nova, Ms. Marvel, and The Vision. While her fellow heroes were initially suspicious of the new Thor and her mysterious secret identity, they eventually came to trust her as they would the original Odinson.

However, Jane Foster does something very surprising in All-New, All Different Avengers #4. After the team of heroes save the day, Sam Wilson’s Captain America was attempting to relate with the new Thor about the public constantly wanting to know when the “real” versions of Cap and Thor would return. However, the Mighty Thor tells Sam to stop worrying before she outright kisses him (much to the surprise of the other Avengers and Captain America himself).

While both Jane and Sam certainly seemed to enjoy their kiss, their romance unfortunately didn’t go much further beyond this initial attraction and brief moment of intimacy. At the time, it was more about Jane wanting to have no regrets seeing as how she was battling cancer. That being said, it would certainly be exciting to see Jane and Sam revisiting their romance in the present Marvel Universe (seeing as how both heroes are still single). Likewise, perhaps the MCU versions of the Mighty Thor and the new Captain America could start their comics romance with further development on-screen with Jane Foster’s heroic arc in the MCU beginning with the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder.

At any rate, Jane Foster’s romance with Sam Wilson certainly seemed like it had a lot of promise. While she may have become the Valkyrie in the current comics, it would certainly be exciting to see Jane Foster rekindle a romance with Captain America in earnest in the near future. After all, reconnecting with the original Thor romantically in the comics would certainly seem retroactive at this point for the Mighty Thor.
