Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor Returns To Team Up With Her Valkyrie Form

A new cover for an upcoming issue of Marvel’s Avengers has revealed that Jane Foster‘s Valkyrie will be teaming up with Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor. While surprising, it appears that Foster’s two hero identities will somehow collide in a tie-in issue to Judgement Day, a major crossover event featuring Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the X-Men, and the Eternals. While details are still scarce, it seems as though Jane Foster will have a role to play with two versions of herself somehow meeting face to face.

Following the Original Sin event in 2014 when the Son of Odin became unworthy to wield Mjolnir, his former love interest Jane Foster stepped up to lift the powerful hammer, transforming into the Mighty Thor. However, she eventually gave up the hammer up prior to 2018’s War of the Realms as every transformation into the God of Thunder was undoing her chemotherapy, leading to the Odinson eventually taking the role back. The end of the event saw Jane becoming one of the Valkyries, her current role in the Marvel Universe.

Now, Monkeys Fighting Robots has shared the solicitation for May’s Avengers #56 from Jason Aaron and Javier Garrón, teasing a meeting of two Jane Fosters. While the Mighty Thor was a part of Jane’s past, it seems as though her version of Thor will somehow be making a return to join her in the present now that she’s become a Valkyrie. Here’s the new cover art teasing their team-up as well as the issue synopsis:

Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor Returns To Team Up With Her Valkyrie Form

JANE FOSTER TAKES THE SPOTLIGHT!-She once famously wielded Mjolnir as Thor, Goddess of Thunder. Today, she guards the worlds of the living and the dead as the winged Valkyrie. Now, those two versions of the same mighty hero somehow find themselves face-to-face, in a desperate bid to save the soul of Jane Foster.

As revealed by the cover art, it’s more than likely that the sinister red face in the background belongs to none other than Mephisto, the current big bad who’s been plaguing the Avengers throughout Aaron’s run. While it’s unknown exactly how or why he’ll connect to these Jane Fosters meeting or their roles in Judgement Day, it should prove to be an exciting issue all around. After all, Jason Aaron was the mastermind behind Jane’s transformation in the Mighty Thor and her new role as a Valkyrie.

It’s no surprise that May’s Marvel titles will be putting a new spotlight on Jane Foster, seeing as how July will see her MCU counterpart returning in Thor: Love and Thunder (played by Natalie Portman). Since it’s already been confirmed that she’ll be wielding Mjolnir as well, it makes sense for Marvel to create some synergy by having the Mighty Thor return in the comics as well. Whether Valkyrie and the Mighty Thor meet via time travel, an alternate dimension, or something in between, it looks like Marvel Comics is looking to prove that two Jane Fosters are better than one when Avengers #56 releases on May 11th.
