It follows a Chinese-American immigrant who learns she must communicate with versions of herself from across the multiverse to prevent an all-powerful being from destroying it. Jamie Lee Curtis plays several versions of IRS inspector Deirdre Beaubeirdre, and her superb performance won her the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. Justin Simien

Cast
Tiffany Haddish, LaKeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson, Winona Ryder, Dan Levy, Danny DeVito, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jared Leto

Haunted Mansion is a supernatural comedy horror film, the second one based on Disney’s theme park attraction The Haunted Mansion. It follows a widowed doctor and her son as they move into their new home, Gracey Manor, which they plan to turn into a bed and breakfast. When they learn it’s haunted, they recruit a team to exorcise the ghosts. Jamie Lee Curtis plays Madame Leota, the psychic who released the ghosts in the first place and is now trapped as a head in a glass ball. It’s not very good and lacks the scares and laughs required in a horror comedy. Still, it grossed nearly $115 million worldwide.

7 Forever Young (1992)

$127.9 million

Jamie Lee Curtis Forever Young

Forever Young is a romantic fantasy drama about a pilot who gets cryogenically frozen in 1939 and wakes up in 1992, at which point his body starts aging rapidly. Mel Gibson stars as the pilot, and Jamie Lee Curtis plays Claire, a woman he bonds with after he awakens. They perform as well as expected, but its most engaging performances come from young stars Elijah Wood and Robert Hy Gorman. While Forever Young is a well-intentioned movie, it lacks inspiration, is sentimental to the point of sickliness, and fails to hold the viewer’s interest. However, it grossed nearly $128 million worldwide.

6 Halloween Kills (2021)

$130.9 million

The second installment in David Gordon Green’s trilogy of Halloween sequels, Halloween Kills again sees Jamie Lee Curtis playing the iconic Laurie Strode. This one starts at the point where the previous movie ended, with Michael Myers left in Laurie’s burning home and Laurie, her daughter, and her granddaughter believing him to be dead. However, he escapes and goes on another rampage, prompting Haddonfield’s entire population into action against him. A fascinating cautionary tale against the mob mentality, Halloween Kills is also suitably scary and wonderfully playful, albeit slightly underwhelming, with Curtis in fine form. It grossed nearly $131 million worldwide.

5 Beverly Hills Chihuahua (2008)

$154.2 million

Jamie Lee Curtis Beverly Hills Chihuahua

The family comedy Beverly Hills Chihuahua may be the most surprising inclusion in the list of Jamie Lee Curtis’s highest-grossing movies. It’s about a spoiled Chihuahua, Chloe, who gets stolen and sent to fight in Mexico City’s illegal dog pits, resulting in standard fish-out-of-water antics. It has some pleasing moments, but it’s mainly trashy, disposable entertainment with some potentially offensive Mexican stereotypes. Curtis plays Vivian “Viv” Ashe, Chloe’s owner, who leaves her pet with her irresponsible niece, triggering the debacle. Piper Perabo, Andy García, and Drew Barrymore appear in supporting roles but can’t save the film. It grossed just over $154 million worldwide.

4 Freaky Friday (2003)

$160.8 million

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in Freaky Friday

Freaky Friday is a fantasy comedy based on the 1972 novel of the same name by Mary Rodgers. It’s the third adaptation of the book and arguably the best. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan play Tess and Anna Coleman, a mother and daughter whose minds get transferred into each other’s bodies by a mystical Chinese fortune cookie. Both lead actresses are brilliantly entertaining in this film, hilariously and convincingly conveying the body swap. Curtis’s portrayal of a teenager is up there with her best performances ever. Freaky Friday is a genuinely delightful little movie. It grossed more than $160 million worldwide.

3 Halloween (2018)

Halloween (2018)

Release Date
October 19, 2018

Director
David Gordon Green

Cast
Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, Virginia Gardner, James Jude Courtney, Nick Castle

Runtime
106 Minutes

The first installment in David Gordon Green’s Halloween sequel trilogy, Halloween is a direct follow-up to the 1978 movie of the same name. It depicts a post-traumatic Laurie Strode, still suffering the effects of Halloween night four decades earlier and living in fear of Michael Myers in a fortified, heavily armed home. Upon his escape from Smith’s Grove Psychiatric Hospital, she must face him again. It’s excellent and the best film in the new trilogy, wiping the slate clean and returning to Halloween’s roots — and Curtis slips seamlessly back into Strode’s shoes. Halloween is suspenseful and gruesome, as the franchise should be. It grossed more than $255 million worldwide.

Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, and Toni Collette are among the stars joining Jamie Lee Curtis in this one. It follows a famed detective to a stately mansion where he investigates the death of an elderly bestselling author. It’s a superb film with a cast in top form. Curtis is brilliant as Linda Drysdale, the grieving daughter of the deceased. Knives Out is gripping, suspenseful, funny, and incredibly clever. It’s among the best murder mystery movies ever. It grossed just short of $313 million worldwide.

True Lies is an iconic action comedy movie about a United States government agent, Harry Tasker, who is having trouble balancing his life as a spy with his role as a father and husband. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger at his inimitable best, with Jamie Lee Curtis playing his character’s neglected wife, Helen Tasker. This film is so much fun and a prime example of how action-comedy should be done. It’s funny, with cartoonish violence and a ludicrous plot that it’s best not to think too hard about. It grossed over $365 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing movie in the career of the fabulous Jamie Lee Curtis.
