James Gunn debunks a claim about Groot’s size in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Two separate characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Groot has been a part of the Guardians team since the first installment. An extraterrestrial, tree-like figure, he began as a companion to Rocket, and his death at the end of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy resulted in the birth of Baby Groot. Guardians Of The Galaxy 3’s Groot Explained

Going all the way back to the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, audiences will recall that the original Groot died while saving the group. As Gunn confirms, the character seen in recent projects is his offspring, brought to life after Rocket planted pieces of his body. Baby Groot quickly became a favorite in the MCU, and in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, fans got to see more of his adolescence.
