Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House Character Revealed In Bloody, Easter Egg-Filled Remake Poster

Jake Gyllenhaal’s Dalton takes center stage in the first poster for Prime Video’s Road House remake, which is filled with Easter eggs. Released in 1989, director Rowdy Harrington’s original Road House stars Patrick Swayze as Dalton, a martial artist who takes a job as a bouncer working at a rough bar. The upcoming remake, which is directed by Doug Liman, takes a similar approach, with Gyllenhaal’s lead character having left a career as a UFC fighter and taken a job at a dive bar in the Florida Keys.

As the Road House remake’s release date inches closer, Prime Video now shares the first official poster for the remake. Check out the new poster below:

The poster features Gyllenhaal’s cut and bruised Dalton front and center, with various Easter eggs scattered behind him. These callbacks to the original film include a recreation of some graffiti seen in the bar, Dalton’s three rules (“Expect the unexpected,” “Take it outside,” and “Be nice”), the Bigfoot #7 monster truck, a cooler (another word for Dalton’s philosophy-grad-turned-bouncer), and the Double Deuce bar logo from the 1989 film.

What To Expect From The Road House Remake

While an official Road House trailer has not yet been released, videos from the film’s set have already teased some of what’s to come. Notably, at least one sequence from the film was shot during a real UFC fight, with Gyllenhaal, in character, doing battle with an opponent in the octagon. As is also seen in the new poster, video clips of the fight show Gyllenhaal sporting a very muscular physique for the role.

In addition to Gyllenhaal, the Road House remake’s cast also includes real-life MMA fighter and boxer Conor McGregor. The upcoming film will mark the fighter’s first ever acting role, though it’s unclear what role he is playing or just how prominently he will be featured in the story. Also appearing are Daniela Melchior (Fast X), Billy Magnussen (No Time To Die), Joaquim de Almeida (Fast Five), Lukas Gage (You), Darren Barnet (Gran Turismo), Jessica Williams (Shrinking), and Beau Knapp (Law & Order), among others.

Road House will not be getting a theatrical release, with the project instead set to debut on Prime Video this spring. Although set to make some updates to the original film’s story, the upcoming remake will again be rated R. The film has earned the rating for “violence throughout, pervasive language, and some nudity,” which is more or less in line with the original. It remains to be seen how the Road House remake will be received by audiences and critics, but an official trailer likely isn’t far off.
