A new behind the scenes video from Road House sees Jake Gyllenhaal taking real punches as he trains for the lead role in the upcoming remake. The actor stars as Elwood Dalton, a former UFC fighter that begins working at a roadhouse in Florida, where corruption is transpiring. The film is a remake of the 1989 movie of the same name starring Patrick Swayze.
Now, Gyllenhaal has posted a video of him training for the upcoming Road House remake, including taking a multitude of punches.
The video shows the actor taking punches from his trainer until his stomach turns red. He jokes about how no one should try his training methods at home, saying he’s doing it to make the movie good.
Will The Road House Remake Be Better Than The Original?
The 1989 film was widely panned by critics, citing it as a cheesy action film or describing it as “so bad it’s good.” Despite this reception, the upcoming remake seeks to reinvent the story, taking a new approach to its story while maintaining the spirit of the first one. However, Swayze’s iconic performance in the original Road House adds a lot for the film to live up to, even if parts of the story are being adjusted.
A key selling point of the remake is watching Gyllenhaal face off against Conor McGregor, who serves as the antagonist of the movie. Because these actors are in the leading roles – and clearly trained hard for their performances – the film is likely to present plenty of memorable action sequences throughout. Since the general premise remains the same, it may contain homages to the original as well, honoring it for the inspiration it offered.
However, Road House is still a classic ’80s action movie with a cheesiness to it that a remake in the 2020’s may not be able to replicate.
