Jake Gyllenhaal recalls a memorable visit to renowned director Michael Bay’s Transformers-filled house. Gyllenhaal first hit the scene in 1991, making his youthful acting debut in City Slickers as Danny Robbins. The esteemed actor would later make his mark in breakthrough roles in October Sky and Donnie Darko. With a slew of acting credits to his name, Gyllenhaal recently entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Mysterio, leading to a showdown with Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Gyllenhaal’s upcoming projects include a project with Guy Ritchie dubbed The Interpreter and a leading role alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in Bay’s new 2022 thriller, Ambulance.
Bay directs the first five films in the Transformers film franchise after initially dismissing them as “stupid toy movies.” However, Bay signed on and ultimately formed an attachment to the Transformers mythology, wanting to work with the legendary Stephen Spielberg. Bay is well-known for using special effects and CGI to create incredible onscreen visuals, well-documented throughout the Transformers franchise and in his other major motion pictures. Gyllenhaal and co-star Abdul-Mateen recently appeared on a talk show to discuss their upcoming film, Ambulance, and a memorable experience with Bay.
In a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live via YouTube, Gyllenhaal recalls visiting Bay’s Transformers-filled house. In his statement, Gyllenhaal describes stumbling across a yellow car in the famed director’s living room and adventuring through an environment resemblant to Jurassic Park before even arriving at the house. He also shares how it was easier to run into Bumble Bee than to find his co-star in the place. See Gyllenhaal’s statement below:
“It took a while for us to find each other there; it’s a very large home. It’s like a huge, huge house. It’s huge, and it’s filled with Transformers memorabilia. I ran into Bumble Bee before I ran into him (Abdul-Mateen). I swear to God, I walked in there, and there’s like a yellow car in his living room. It’s like you go through Jurassic Park before you get to his home.”
Again, Bay is well-known for creating big-budget, over-the-top action films laying heavy on special effects and stylistic cinematography. From Armageddon to Pearl Harbor and the Transformers films, it is apparent that Bay tends to ramp up the intense action sequences and top it all off with incredible explosions. To hear Bay’s home described in such a way by Gyllenhaal is not much of a surprise, given the director’s propensity to embody a larger-than-life persona. To complement his home, Bay has also owned a $50 million Gulfstream G550 jet along with a Bentley, a Range Rover, an Escalade, a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, and two Camaros from the Transformers franchise.
Regarding Ambulance, Bay appears to step back from the outlandish action-laden and special effects-driven cinematography he is most notably known for. Instead, the film will be a little more character-based, relying less on the visualizations which have begun over-shadowing his projects in recent years. However, since Ambulance is essentially one long car chase, audiences will likely get their fair share of Transformers-related thrills upon the film’s release on April 8, 2022.
