Spider-Man: Far From Home star Jake Gyllenhaal greets Tom Holland on his birthday with the release of a new behind-the-scenes image. While Avengers: Endgame capped off the Infinity Saga, Jon Watts’ sequel functioned as the story’s epilogue as it tackled Peter Parker’s grief over the death of Iron Man. He thought he found a brand new ally and potential mentor in Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio, but as it turns out, he’s a fraud.
A disgruntled former Stark Industries employee, Quentin Beck teamed up with his old co-workers to acquire Tony Stark’s E.D.I.T.H. glasses that were left with Peter. In the end, Mysterio was defeated and believed to be killed during his final one-on-one with the web-slinging hero. Despite their contentious relationship on screen, Gyllenhaal and Holland genuinely liked working with each other as they repeatedly talked about while doing press for Far From Home. While Gyllenhaal is technically out of the MCU and it’s been years since they’ve starred in the aforementioned movie, it seems as if the pair have maintained their friendship.
Given this, Gyllenhaal didn’t miss greeting Holland on his 25th birthday on social media. To commemorate the occasion, the actor shared a selfie of them in-between filming Mysterio and Spider-Man’s climactic battle in Far From Home. He added a happy birthday text on the snap and expressed how much he misses his former co-star. Check out the image below:

There’s a general presumption that Mysterio died at the end of Far From Home, officially wrapping up his involvement in the MCU. But, there are theories that somehow, he might have been able to fake his death and is only waiting to show up again to terrorize Peter. Whether or not this claim has merits is still uncertain, but regardless of Beck’s future in the franchise, he’d significantly impacted how Spider-Man operates moving forward. During Far From Home‘s mid-credits scene, a heavily edited video of him was broadcasted by The Daily Bugle wherein he revealed the web-slinging hero’s real identity.
Gyllenhaal is among the first Marvel actors who greeted Holland on his birthday proving that their friendship endures beyond their time working on Spider-Man: Far From Home. But aside from the expected slew of social media posts to celebrate his big day, fans are also holding out hope that somehow, Sony will drop the first look at Spider-Man: No Way Home. To be fair, there hasn’t been any concrete indication that this would be the case and as of the time of writing, both Sony and Marvel Studios are mum about the matter. But on the heels of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ trailer drop on Simu Liu’s birthday, there are some who are expecting that somehow, Holland will also get the same treatment.
