Jack Ryan Season 4 Greenlit At Amazon & Adds Ant-Man’s Michael Peña To Cast

Amazon Prime Video has renewed Jack Ryan for season 4, adding Ant-Man star Michael Peña to the cast. Based on the characters created by Tom Clancy, Jack Ryan is an action-thriller which began in 2018 by introducing viewers to the titular CIA analyst (played by John Krasinski) as he is pulled away from his familiar desk job into the field after he discovers a string of dubious bank transfers that uncover a much larger plot. The show has also starred Wendell Pierce, Abbie Cornish, Michael Kelly, and Ali Suliman.

In the most recent episode of Jack Ryan, the season 2 finale, which debuted back in October 2019, Krasinki’s character was last seen exposing corruption within the U.S. Senate. When the series returns for season 3, Ryan finds himself wrongly implicated in a larger conspiracy and is forced to become a fugitive. Wanted by the CIA, in addition to an international rogue faction, the protagonist moves underground while crisscrossing Europe in an effort to prevent a massive global conflict.

Although viewers will have to wait to see what the CIA analyst will be up to when the show returns, as season 3 currently does not have a premiere date, THR reports that Jack Ryan has been renewed for season 4. Michael Peña, known for playing Luis in the Ant-Man movies, will also join the series. Peña has also appeared in movies such as American Hustle, Fury, and The Martian. Character specifics are currently unknown, but the actor will be appearing in multiple episodes.

Jack Ryan, which shoots in several countries and boasts a considerable budget, has regularly nabbed early renewals. The show was renewed for season 2 before the first episode even premiered. Likewise, it received the green light for season 3 long before its sophomore outing was available to audiences. It’s a clear sign that Amazon has faith in the Clancy adaptation. Although, in terms of audience reaction, Jack Ryan has been called out for perpetuating harmful stereotypes about the LGBT+ community as well as those in the Muslim world.

The show has experienced shifts behind the scenes, however, which could signify shifts in the show’s key narratives. Vaun Wilmott served as showrunner for season 3, which has wrapped production. Wilmott took over from Prison Break executive producer Paul Scheuring, who left the role after only a few months. As for series co-creator Carlton Cuse, known for his work on Lost, he was the showrunner for the first few seasons before stepping away from the project. It remains to be seen, once Jack Ryan season 3 debuts, whether these changes will be reflected in the story.
