Jack Black & Jack White Unite for Jack Gray Collaboration

Jack Black and Jack White unite for a Jack Gray collaboration. Fans of Jack Black will certainly be familiar with his lengthy resume of comedy hits, particularly his most recent role in the Jumanji franchise as Bethany/Professor Sheldon Oberon.

However, aside from his acting ability, Black has also long made up half of the comedic musical duo Tenacious D. Together with fellow actor Kyle Gass, the band has released four full length studio albums, toured extensively and even released a film based on the band’s fictionalized exploits, 2006’s Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. To date, the band has received plenty of attention from fans and a host of celebrities alike, forming memorable collaborations with ex-Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl, as well as other lesser known collaborations with Styx, The Vandals and Sum 41.

Now, thanks to a video posted to Black’s YouTube channel, Jablinski Games, the comedian and musician has highlighted some of the ongoing Tenacious D tour as well as a meeting with former White Stripes frontman, Jack White. In the below video, Black and Gass meet with White, tour the famed musician’s Third Man Studios in Nashville and later adjourn to White’s home, where they collaborate on a new single for the newly formed Jack Gray. For fans of both Tenacious D and White, this is a bit of a dream come true.

White rose to fame with his two-piece band, The White Stripes, in the early 2000s alongside bandmate Meg White. Together, the pair created a powerful sonic and visual aesthetic that mixed together stripped down elements of blues, punk rock, country and rock n’ roll. Known initially as a brother and sister duo, it was later revealed that Jack and Meg were in fact a divorced couple who focused their creative energies on creating a wholly engaging and original musical act. The band officially went their separate ways in 2011 and White went on to record and perform as a solo act, releasing three solo albums as well as recording and performing with two other bands, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. This new collaboration with Black and Gass is just a single, but in the above video, Black mentions that he and Gass have been working on a song that White is going to help with.

At present there is no confirmation with regards to a release date for the single, but if the above video is any indication, White works very fast and the likelihood of the single being released quite soon is good. For his part, Black’s cinematic presence will be back and accounted for come December, when Jumanji: The Next Level hits theaters. And if you really can’t wait any longer for your next Tenacious D fix, the animated series Tenacious D – Post Apocalypto is available now on YouTube.
