“It’s a Trap”: Darth Vader Replies to Admiral Ackbar’s Iconic Quote with 3 Epic Words

As Darth Vader begins a new attempt to radically improve his personal Death Trooper guard, the Sith Lord also surprisingly refutes one of the most famous lines in Star Wars history. Admiral Ackbar’s “It’s a trap!” is one of the most lasting lines from Return of the Jedi, appearing across the franchise as a nod to the heroic Mon Calamari revolutionary. Now, Vader reveals his answer.

In a preview of Star Wars: Darth Vader #42, Vader begins his new plan to recruit Rebellion cyborgs and remove their free will, turning them into his ideal soldiers. After walking into a conflict where an Empire lieutenant is being used as bait, Darth Vader is warned, “It’s a trap!” Now surrounded by the deadliest warriors the Rebellions has to offer, Vader replies, “Yes, it is.”

While the Rebels may think they’ve set a clever trap for the Empire, Darth Vader is confident that he’ll turn the tables – and his history shows he’s right. While countless foes have locked Vader away, attempted to overwhelm him, or left him to die, Vader always triumphs. It’s likely he arranged for the Rebel cyborgs to be here in the first place, but even if he didn’t, Vader knows he will prevail. His very existence is a trap for his enemies – anyone who gets close enough to hurt him is instead ruthlessly cut down.

Darth Vader Is the Bait in His Own Trap

The Rebellion’s Greatest Cyborgs Attack Right When Vader Wants Them

Recently, Darth Vader was forced to kill a squadron of his own Death Troopers after they were turned against him. Following this, Darth Vader interacted with the viral AI known as the Scourge, temporarily gaining the ability to control droids with his mind. These experiences have left him convinced that while he needs biological soldiers for their ability to learn and make instinctive choices, he also needs the complete, programmed loyalty of droids. As seen in the recent Star Wars: Revelations #1, his solution is to capture the Rebellions greatest cyborg warriors, then rob them of the ability to defy him.

The current volume of Darth Vader has done a lot to explore his sincere belief in order. While Vader blames many individuals for his fall into darkness, he is also obsessed with the harm caused by a chaotic galaxy. Ultimately, Vader turned to the dark side to gain control, and now he’s pursuing the purest form of that mission – followers who literally can’t disobey him, even as they seethe with hatred for everything he represents. It’s a truly horrific goal, and one that mimics his own experience becoming a tool of Palpatine.

At the same time, a group named the Schism Imperial are on the rise, led by the traitorous Sly Moore. The Schism Imperial want to overthrow the Sith’s control of the Empire and take it for themselves. This new faction will seek to manipulate Vader, surely learning what every other Star Wars hero and villain eventually discovers: if you ever believe Darth Vader is at your mercy, it’s a trap!
