Is The A-Team About To Be Cubed?

I don’t know why I’m always writing about The A-Team, I’m not a huge fan, but I did love it as a kid, and therefore I really do want the film to be good. It’s a fantastic concept and I think that if done correctly we might have a really good franchise on our hands. I’m thinking the Ocean’s films – with guns. Lots of guns.

However, I’m worried that the film is going the wrong way in terms of tone and script. The recent script review that I read doesn’t have much connection to the show and I feel that John Singleton isn’t a great choice for a director. I don’t hate the guy – but he isn’t exactly known for his directorial flair and vision.

With Singleton’s recent signing comes news from Blackfilm that Ice Cube is in negotiations to star as the iconic B.A Baracus.

This isn’t shocking news, Cube’s name has been mentioned before in relation to the film, and he has worked with Singleton in the past; on Boyz n the Hood.

He’s not a bad choice, but he’s no Mr T. I’ve always hoped for Michael Clarke Duncan starring as the gold loving soldier of fortune, but hey… you can’t have everything.

It sounds more or less like a done deal, with Blackfilm quoting Cube as saying:

“They want me to do it if all the business works out right. I was a fan as a kid and that would be, not a dream come true, but it’s definitely a good thing to do and I would put it on my resume for sure.”

When asked what he would bring to the role he said:

“I wouldn’t try to duplicate what Mr. T did, but I will have the same impact on you as when you were little watching the TV show. I’m going to bring my own flavor to it and I am going to do the mohawk.”

At least he appears to be a fan of the show, although it could just be the sound of the marketing machine starting up.

The start date for filming isn’t known yet, but it sounds like the film is moving forward at a steady pace.
