Is Sandra Bullock Expendable?

If the news already released (mainly casting in nature) for Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming action flick The Expendables hasn’t got you excited enough already, we have another piece of casting news to fuel the fire.

Now it’s not set in stone but it appears that Sandra Bullock may be the next one to jump aboard the cast, as Stallone is “pursuing her for the project.” If she signs on the dotted line she will join already announced cast members Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Forest Whitaker, Randy Couture and of course Stallone himself (who’s also writer and director).

If you need a little reminder, The Expendables is about a group of mercenaries who are sent on a mission to South America to overthrow a dictator. Moviehole described the movie as shaping up to be like “‘Clear and Present Danger’ on acid…”

Sounds interesting (to say the least!).

It seems as if Stallone is really putting the effort forth on this one, as he’s proven to do in the past with the original Rocky and Rocky Balboa (and even Rambo, although that didn’t turn out quite as good). It’s clear he’s looking at it as a passion project -kind of an ode to the action movie genre. I mean, just look at that cast; he’s got himself and Lundgren bringing us a blast from the action past and modern day acton stars Jet Li and Jason Statham, as well as UFC fighter Randy Couture (who I’m sure wasn’t hired for his acting skills). And an Oscar winning actor like Forest Whitaker on board sure doesn’t hurt.

As I’ve said, the deal isn’t clinched with Bullock but I don’t see why she wouldn’t want to work with her former Demolition Man co-star in a film that’s shaping up be as kick-ass as this. Word is if she does join she will “play a government agent (paired up with Whitaker) on the hunt for Stallone’s crew of hired guns.” I’m liking the sound of that.

What do you make of Bullock’s potential expendability? And what about the film in general? Excited?
