Is Donny Blaze The MCU’s Ghost Rider?!

Is Donny Blaze The MCU’s Ghost Rider?!

Warning: This post contains SPOILERS for She-Hulk episode 4!She-Hulk: Attorney At Law introduces a new character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a familiar last name; Is Donny Blaze the MCU’s Ghost Rider? The latest Marvel show might be centered around Jennifer Walters, but each She-Hulk episode also includes a special guest star. The first three episodes brought Smart Hulk, Abomination, and Wong into the mix. She-Hulk episode 4 brings Wong back into the equation as he gets into a conflict with a magician named Donny Blaze. Blaze’s last name has significance in Marvel’s mythology, as Johnny Blaze is Marvel’s Ghost Rider, sparking speculation about Donny’s true identity.

The speculation that Ghost Rider could be in She-Hulk began thanks to one of the show’s trailers, which featured a poster for Blaze’s magic show. There were some incorrect assumptions that the first name was Johnny, though. She-Hulk episode 4 makes it quite clear that Donny Blaze is an aspiring magician who used to train at Kamar-Taj and stole a sling ring from the Masters of the Mystic Arts before he left. Due to the episode’s story and Donny’s magic connecting to demons and the supernatural, She-Hulk‘s Ghost Rider confusion might remain – even if Donny does not have the fiery skull head.

It does not seem that Donny Blaze is the MCU’s Ghost Rider, though. She-Hulk episode 4 makes no direct connection to Donny and the Spirit of Vengeance. There are also no hints that he will begin pursuing such a future after he agrees to stop using magic. Marvel could ultimately reveal that Donny Blaze is related to Ghost Rider, as Johnny Blaze could potentially be his cousin or brother. She-Hulk is exploring the idea of super-powered cousins through Jennifer Walters and Bruce Banner, but that does not make Donny Blaze the MCU’s Ghost Rider. He is instead a struggling magician who now has to find a new career path.

Where Ghost Rider Can Appear In MCU Phase 5

Is Donny Blaze The MCU’s Ghost Rider?!

Ghost Rider might not be in She-Hulk episode 4, but there are plenty of opportunities for him to appear in MCU Phase 5. The one project above the rest that is most likely to include Ghost Rider is arguably Blade. Mahershala Ali’s first solo movie as the vampire hunter is coming to theaters in 2023 and will usher in a more supernatural corner of the MCU. Ghost Rider would fit in Blade as another way to expand Marvel’s supernatural realm. It would further the potential build-up of a Midnight Sons team that could unite Blade, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, Werewolf by Night, and others.

Marvel could also potentially give Ghost Rider a Disney+ show in Phase 5 or 6, and doing so would allow the MCU’s version of Ghost Rider a chance to shine properly. If Marvel wants to gauge interest in the character before announcing a solo project, the Spirit of Vengeance could appear in Agatha: Coven of Chaos or Daredevil: Born Again. There is also a good chance that Ghost Rider appears in either Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars. Now it is just a matter of waiting to see where he debuts, but She-Hulk: Attorney At Law‘s Donny Blaze is not the MCU’s Ghost Rider.

New episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law release on Thursdays on Disney+.
