Is Bigfoot In Red Dead Redemption 2?

Is Bigfoot In Red Dead Redemption 2?

The open worlds of Rockstar games contain many secrets, and one of the original, most sought after secrets is the Sasquatch. This secret started as a rumor back in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and has since appeared in other Rockstar titles. Unfortunately, Bigfoot is nowhere to be seen in Red Dead Redemption 2.

The Bigfoot mystery originally began as a rumor in older Grand Theft Auto titles like San AndreasThe theory went that players would be able to find the enigmatic cryptid if they searched the Back O’ Beyond area of the map. Unfortunately, no player ever found anything on an unmodified version of the game. Just like the real Bigfoot, however, many players organized hoaxes using modified game footage to make it seem as if the Bigfoot rumor was true. Eventually, Rockstar confirmed that there was no Bigfoot creature discoverable in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

However, that’s not the end of the story, because Bigfoot was added much later on in other Rockstar games. In Grand Theft Auto 5, a Bigfoot can be discovered during the main story mission “Predator.” During this mission, the player has to use a thermally-scoped sniper rifle in GTA 5 to hunt down a group of back-woods meth dealers. Somewhere in this location, the player can identify the thermal signature of what appears to be a Bigfoot. Player interaction is kept to a minimum, and the Bigfoot will quickly disappear after being spotted.

Bigfoot’s History In GTA & Red Dead Redemption Games

Is Bigfoot In Red Dead Redemption 2?

Grand Theft Auto 5 also has two side missions concerning Bigfoot. In “The Last One,” the player hunts down what they believe to be a true sasquatch until they reveal themselves as a costumed cook. Likewise, in the online mission, “Golden Peyote,” the player character undergoes a series of peyote-induced hallucinations where they believe themselves to be a sasquatch. Unfortunately, while the player takes control of a “sasquatch,” no true sasquatches are revealed.

The only other time Rockstar has included true-blue sasquatches in their games happened in the original Red Dead Redemption during the Undead Nightmare DLC. During the side mission “Birth of the Conservation Movement,” John Marston does find himself face to face with multiple sasquatches. John hunts down all but one of them. This final sasquatch reveals that it is fully sapient, and pleads with John to spare its life. The player can choose to let it go or to kill it, either way John can still encounter stray sasquatches in the forests of Tall Trees.

Regrettably, there are no such Easter eggs or side quests in Red Dead Redemption 2. Players have looked, but so far there has been nothing to find as either Arthur Morgan or John Marston. That won’t stop Rockstar’s fans from searching, however. People searched San Andreas for ages before Rockstar confirmed it was just a myth. Likewise, people are still searching the vast worlds of Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for all kinds of secrets. Myth busting is a time-honored tradition of the Rockstar fanbase, and it won’t simply stop due to a lack of evidence.
