Is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Discovery Tour: Viking Age Free

Ubisoft recently announced the upcoming release of Discovery Tour: Viking Age. This educational experience allows players to explore more about the history and cultures of Vikings portrayed in Assassin’s Creed ValhallaAssassin’s Creed has not always been historically accurate, but Ubisoft’s dedication to historical education is admirable. Like previously released Discovery ToursViking Age has varying prices depending on the Ubisoft products certain players own.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has delved into various aspects of Viking history, allowing players to control Eivor as they journey through Norway and England. Valhalla’s core gameplay mechanics involve violent combat, which Ubisoft eliminated in Discovery Tour: Viking Age. Instead, guided tours, multiple playable characters, and different historical locations will educate players on 9th Century Norway and England during the Viking era. Although developers dramatized certain events in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for entertainment, several historically accurate cameos were made in Valhalla‘s campaign.

Discovery Tour: Viking Age releases October 19, 2021, and will be available in two versions. Viking Age will be free to all Assassin’s Creed Valhalla owners, who can experience this Discovery Tour as a historically accurate expansion to the base game. Discovery Tour: Viking Age will be available on all platforms as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, meaning users on different consoles will receive the content simultaneously. Valhalla includes historical events, like the Siege of Paris, but it’s currently unknown which experiences will appear in Viking Age.

Discovery Tour: Viking Age Isn’t Free For All, But Is Cheaper Than AC Valhalla

However, those interested in Discovery Tour: Viking Age who do not own Valhalla will not receive the product for free. The PC Standalone version of Discovery Tour: Viking Age will be sold on Ubisoft Connect and Epic Games Store for £15.99, or$14.99 USD. Interested parties on Stadia, Luna, PlayStation, and Xbox will not receive the standalone Discovery Tour until early 2022. Ubisoft has not released a concrete date for the title yet, however.

The Discovery Tour: Viking Age experience will be similar to Assassin’s Creed’s exploration, allowing players to interact with Discovery Sites. These locations will teach players about specific aspects of Viking and Anglo-Saxon culture in the ninth century. In addition, Ubisoft’s museum partners (UK’s Hampshire Cultural Trust, Preston Park Museum & Grounds, York Archaeological Trust, The British Library, France’s Reunion des Musees Nationanaux, and the National Museum of Denmark) donated pictures of their collections to enhance the Tour’s gameplay experience.

Ubisoft’s previous Discovery Tours have educated players on many locations, such as Ancient Egypt and Greece, offering unique learning experiences. Assassin’s Creed can educate players with limited historical information without bogging down the narrative and gameplay, but its Discovery Tours are a unique way to explore various time periods. Discovery Tour: Viking Age releases October 16 on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla platforms, with a standalone version releasing later in 2022.
