Iron Man VR Update Adds New Game Plus And Ultimate Difficulty Mode

It’s been only a little over a month since the release of Iron Man VR for the PSVR and developer Camouflaj just launched a hefty update that adds new game modes, weapons, and a whole lot more. Iron Man VR was originally unveiled during Sony’s State of Play presentation in March 2019. The game features an original story as well as a new suit called the Impulse Armor that was created exclusively for the game.

Iron Man VR was initially scheduled to be released last year but was then delayed to February of this year. It was further delayed to May 15th, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it and other PlayStation exclusives such as The Last of Us: Part II ended up getting pushed back yet again. Iron Man VR was finally released on July 3rd, and while it is considered as one of the best PSVR games yet, it still received mixed reviews.

In a new post on the PlayStation Blog, gameplay designer Blaine Higdon detailed all the content that would be added to the game with the free Patch 1.06 update. First off, the update adds a “much-requested” New Game Plus mode that will let players replay the story from the beginning after completing it, but keep the Research Points and unlocks they’ve already obtained. There’s also the new Ultimate difficulty mode for those who want an even bigger challenge than the previous Invincible difficulty. Players will also gain access to a selection of new weapons, such as the Continuous Beam Repulsor, EM Charge Cannon, Micro Swarm, and Gravity Bomb.

The update also adds a new set of eight Custom Armor Decos, designed by character artist Chris Foster, along with a new set of challenges to unlock them. Notably, one of the custom decos included in the update is the Iron Patriot, giving those who missed obtaining it during the game’s launch another chance to add it to their collection. Iron Man VR is also getting some new quality-of-life features including improved loading times, the ability to skip cinematics before they’re loaded, and even the option to skip some of the game’s side missions.

While it initially feels like some of the content that’s been added in the patch should have been included in the game at launch, it’s good that the developer has added it into the game not too long after. Hopefully, Camoflaj continues to not only add more content to Iron Man VR, but also listen to feedback from the game’s players to find ways to extend its life even more.
