Iron Man Reveals Why The Avengers Haven’t Helped The X-Men During Fall of X

Iron Man Reveals Why The Avengers Haven’t Helped The X-Men During Fall of X

After being suspiciously absent from the X-Men’s war against the villainous Orchis, The Avengers are finally entering the fight against fascism in an explosive preview for The Avengers #12. Tony Stark, the iconic Iron Man, has been fighting against Orchis alongside his mutant wife Emma Frost, and reveals that the Avengers staying out of the X-Men’s battle was intentional, before unleashing them on the unsuspecting Orchis.

The Avengers have been extremely busy fighting the Ashen Combine and then Myrddin’s Twilight Court, but that doesn’t excuse them from not supporting the X-Men, especially when Orchis has made it clear that they will eventually target all superhumans.

CBR’s exclusive preview for The Avengers #12, from writer Jed MacKay and artist Francesco Mortarino, sees Iron Man explain how he explicitly asked his Avengers teammates to not interfere with the war until their “ducks were in a row,” and now that they are, the Avengers will begin a brutal campaign against Orchis.

The FALL OF X comes for Earth’s Mightiest heroes! The Avengers have hung in space over the Earth, a sword of Damocles over Orchis, for too long. But knowing they had only one chance to strike, they waited while Iron Man prepared. Now, on his signal, it is time, and the Avengers only know one way to strike: hard!

Iron Man Is Finally Unleashing The Avengers On Orchis

Will the Avengers be able to stop Orchis from taking over Earth?

Avengers #13 fighting Stark Sentinel

After the collaboration between the X-Men and the Avengers during the recent A.X.E.: Judgment Day event, some might have found it surprising that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes haven’t supported mutantkind in their crusade against Orchis. Some individual Avengers heroes, like Thor, have assaulted Orchis bases, but the team as a collective has made no moves, and Iron Man has finally explained why. After Feilong, a high-ranking member of Orchis, took over Stark Industries and created the Stark Sentinels, Tony begged the Avengers to let him take the lead on Orchis, which they allowed.

Iron Man

Anthony “Tony” Edward Stark, AKA Iron Man, is a Marvel Comics superhero who has enjoyed several years of the spotlight and has become a mainstay in several Marvel media franchises. After suffering a critical injury, Tony creates a specialized armored suit powered by an arc reactor, which keeps him alive. Egotistical but good-hearted, Tony utilizes his super intellect and inventions to fight to protect humanity from various threats, eventually becoming a founding member of the Avengers. In 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was kicked off with the film Iron Man, which starred Robert Downey Jr. as the superhero.

Now though, the X-Men have launched their major assault against Orchis’ many bases, and Iron Man sees this as the perfect time for the Avengers to strike at the villainous organization. Using the tactic of moving so quickly through their assaults that Orchis can’t keep up, the Avengers begin the preview by destroying an Orchis Sentinel farm in Alaska, a site that will eventually house Cyclops’ new X-Men team in their From the Ashes era. While M.O.D.O.K. doesn’t appear worried about the Avengers, their former teammate 3-D Man sees their threat, and tries to convince his Orchis boss that they must be targeted.

The X-Men Have Accused The Avengers Of Not Supporting In The Past

Stark’s marriage to Emma Frost has changed the team’s relationship

Emma Frost calling out Iron Man Genosha

While some fans might have been surprised by the Avengers’ lack of action, many others have not been, seeing as the human team has a history of not supporting the X-Men in their times of great need. Specifically, Cyclops has called out Captain America, and Emma Frost has condemned Iron Man, for the Avengers’ lack of support following the horrific mutant genocide on Genosha. However, now that Tony and Emma are married, he has become inspired to not be silent against mutant violence any longer, bringing in his Avengers teammates as necessary allies to the X-Men.

The X-Men are a powerful and proud group of heroes, but they will never turn down help when they need it, so will quickly open their arms to their Avengers allies once they see the damage they are doing to Orchis. It is encouraging to see that the Avengers have not just been willfully ignoring the threat of Orchis, but instead have been bidding their time until Iron Man gave them the signal to join the X-Men in their war.

The Avengers #12 from Marvel Comics debuts April 3rd, 2024.
