iPad Pro M1 & 5G: When You Can Order Apple’s New Tablets & The Price

iPad Pro M1 & 5G: When You Can Order Apple’s New Tablets & The Price

Apple has unveiled a new iPad Pro for 2021 with several enhancements over the previous version. Naturally, that includes a cellular upgrade to 5G, as well as a new processor, big display improvements, more storage options, and better connectivity. These exciting new tablets, an 11-inch and 12.9-inch version will be available to order soon and could sell out quickly.

Since its introduction, the iPad Pro has been the fastest iPad available. That was questionable, however, after the launch of the iPad Air 4 last September, when it gained the A14 chip, which in some ways surpassed the A12Z in the iPad Pro which came earlier in 2020. The iPad Pro has LiDAR, an adaptive 120-hertz refresh rate display, and other features that set it above the iPad Air, so it wasn’t a huge conflict to improve the lower-cost model so much, but Apple has balanced the scales fully in 2021 with the announcement that the iPad Pro now contains the same advanced chip as M1 Mac computers.

The new iPad Pro is available in 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, starting at just $799 for the smaller version and $1,099 for the largest. Apple has only two color choices for each, gray and silver, but offers five storage configurations, doubling the base 128-gigabyte capacity at each step and all the way up to 2-terabytes. The starting price includes 128-gigabytes, which can be doubled for an extra $100. Naturally, price continues to increase at higher capacities. The maximum storage possible is a huge 2-terabytes which adds $1,100 to the starting cost. A terabyte is roughly equal to 1,000-gigabytes, so this is a massive amount of room for photos, videos, and other content in such a slim device. Finally, the iPad Pro is available in a Wi-Fi-only or Wi-Fi plus cellular option. For another $200 an iPad Pro can be purchased with 5G support.

Apple stated that the iPad Pro will be available to order on April 30, 2021, and shipping will begin in the second half of May, so about two weeks later. With any iPad Pro order, Apple offers free engraving, a nice way to make it a unique gift. The order page mentions that there are special deals available when activating with AT&T, T-Mobile/Sprint, or Verizon. The savings may be as much as $200, so it is worth checking this option out if ordering the 5G version.

With upgrades to most major components, the latest iPad Pro offers great value. Featuring a super-fast M1 chip, the same one used in the newest Mac computers, this brings the iPad to a new level of performance. Mini-LED display technology matches Apple’s Pro XDR display and even the USB port has been upgraded to Thunderbolt capability. Anyone shopping for a new tablet, or even a new laptop, might want to consider Apple’s new iPad Pro and mark the calendar for April 30, when these exciting new tablets go on sale.
