Invincible’s Ridiculous Squid Villain Further Hints A Dead Hero Is Secretly Alive

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 2, episode 7 and the comics!

Invincible season 2, episode 7 has introduced a ridiculous new squid villain, with this dastardly debut secretly hinting that a dead Invincible hero is actually alive. Invincible season 2, episode 7 was quite the tonal switch for the beloved TV show’s newest batch of episodes, with it going from an incredibly dark series featuring some major character deaths to a wacky superhero show with goofy villains. Invincible season 2, episode 7’s new villain is one of the show’s oddest additions in a while, but fans of the comics know that he secretly sets up the return of a major hero.

Invincible season 2, part 2 is finally here, with the highly anticipated continuation of Amazon Prime Video’s critically acclaimed adaptation of the beloved superhero comic series now releasing. Invincible season 2, part 2 picks up right where Invincible season 2, part 1 ended, with Mark Grayson returning home from Thraxa to help the Guardians of the Globe on further missions. Invincible season 2, episode 7 mostly focuses on the end of Mark and Amber’s relationship, but it also sees him help a super ally take down an all-new foe, with this having major implications for the show’s future.

Invincible season 2, episode 7 sees Mark and Rex Splode take on an all-new villain from the comics: Octoboss. Octoboss and his Squidmen are seen attempting to break into a secure vault, with Rex taking it upon himself to take down Octoboss and save the day, with this being one of Rex’s attempts to redeem himself. However, Octoboss turns out to be tougher than Rex Splode anticipated, causing Invincible to have to help him out. Although Octoboss initially seems like a goofy one-off villain, he ends up playing a big part in a future Invincible villain story.

Invincible Just Introduced Another Character Who Could Kill Omni-Man

Allen the Alien has gotten a major upgrade in Invincible season 2, with the Amazon show proving that he is now even stronger than Omni-Man.

Interestingly, Octoboss reappears later in the Invincible comics, with him having been recruited by Dupli-Kate’s brother Multi-Paul. Although Multi-Paul shares the same powers as his sister, the duplicating member of the Guardians of the Globe, Paul uses his abilities in much more villainous ways. Because of this, Multi-Paul teams up with some other villains during his revenge storyline later in Invincible, with him recruiting Octoboss to help him out. It is possible that this storyline could be explored in Invincible season 3, seeing the return of Octoboss.

The Appearance Of Dupli-Kate’s Brother Reveals Her Surprise Survival

She Didn’t Stay Dead Long

Multi-Paul’s debut in Invincible is a big deal, as his appearance actually reveals the surprise survival of his sister, Dupli-Kate. Dupli-Kate died in Invincible season 2, episode 5, similarly to the comics. In the Invincible comics, Multi-Paul shows up to challenge the Guardians of the Globe shortly after Kate’s death, blaming them for her demise and attempting to seek vengeance. Multi-Paul and the other villains are a difficult group to take down, and it turns out that the only one who can stop him is Dupli-Kate.

When Multi-Paul is wreaking havoc in the Invincible comics, Dupli-Kate shows up to calm her brother down, revealing that she is still alive. As it turns out, Dupli-Kate kept one clone hidden away in a safe spot in case the rest of her clones died, with her using her death at the hands of the Lizard League as a chance to take a break. However, Multi-Paul’s rampage forced her to return, leading to Dupli-Kate coming out of hiding.

Why Dupli-Kate’s Survival May Not Happen In Invincible’s TV Show

Another Big Comics Change Was Made

Although Dupli-Kate’s death and return is a major element in the Invincible comics, it might not happen in the TV show. In the comics, both Shrinking Ray and Dupli-Kate are defeated by the Lizard League. Although Kate comes back, Shrinking Ray stays dead, with this being one of the comics’ first major deaths. However, Shrinking Rae was revealed to still be alive in the Invincible TV show, and if the show still wants to keep a character dead, then Kate is the only option.

Why Allen Lets Himself Get Captured By Anissa In Invincible Season 2, Part 2

Allen’s battle with Anissa ends with Invincible’s ally allowing himself to be captured for an important reason that could set up season 3.

Keeping Dupli-Kate and Shrinking Rae alive after the Lizard League battle means that none of the characters would have died, creating a major stakes problem for the Invincible TV show. Rex Splode’s arc of regret also wouldn’t make sense if none of the main characters died, meaning that someone’s fate has to have been sealed by episode 5. It will be hard to fully replace Kate’s story with Ray’s, but it may have to be done in order to keep the pacing and stakes of Invincible alive.

Mark goes on to develop superhuman abilities, but he must also learn that his father’s legacy isn’t as glitzy and glamorous as he’s been led to believe.
