Invincible Season 2’s Subtle 1980s Bill Murray Movie Reference Is Hilarious

Invincible Season 2’s Subtle 1980s Bill Murray Movie Reference Is Hilarious

Invincible season 2 contains a small reference to a classic 1980s Bill Murray movie, and the gag is absolutely hilarious. Although Invincible is an animated superhero series, it has managed to sneak in tons of references to other properties, including films and TV shows that are from entirely different genres. However, this subtle Bill Murray joke is one of the most significant, with it being one of the best Easter eggs in Invincible season 2.

Invincible season 2, part 2 is finally here, with the highly anticipated continuation of Amazon Prime Video’s critically acclaimed animated adaptation of the superhero comic of the same name now releasing. Invincible season 2, part 2 picks up right where Invincible season 2, part 1 ended, with Mark returning home from Thraxa while the Guardians of the Globe gear up to fight the Sequids. Although the season 2, part 2 premiere is hectic, the episode finds time to homage a Bill Murray classic.

William’s Book In Invincible Season 2 Is A Clever Caddyshack Reference

As it turns out, William’s book in Invincible season 2, episode 5 is a clever reference to Caddyshack. Although attention isn’t called to it, the name of the author can clearly be seen, with it being Carl Spackler. Although this may not seem notable to most viewers, it should stand out to Bill Murray fans.

Carl Spackler is the name of Bill Murray’s character in the classic 1980 comedy Caddyshack, with it being one of Murray’s most famous roles. In the film, Carl Spackler is the greenskeeper who famously spends most of the film trying to rid the country club of a gopher. Although it isn’t known why the team behind Invincible thought that Carl Spackler was well suited for this Easter egg, it is a fun reference nevertheless.

Invincible’s High School Continues The Show’s Excellent Ghostbuster Actor Nods

Although the Bill Murray Easter egg is strange, this gag actually continues Invincible‘s excellent trend of Ghostbusters actor nods. In the Invincible comics, Mark Grayson’s high school is named Reginald VelJohnson High School, with Reginald VelJohnson also being the principal. This Invincible principal Easter egg is one of the franchise’s funniest, as the nod is so random that it works.

VelJohnson actually appears in Ghostbusters alongside Bill Murray, with him playing a small role as a guard at the jail. VelJohnson actually voiced his character in Invincible season 1, episode 5, bringing this joke full circle. Although VelJohnson’s role in Invincible is much bigger than that of Bill Murray’s Caddyshack character, it is a fun detail to include both in Invincible season 2.
