Invincible Season 2’s Finale Did 1 Part Of Mark’s Angstrom Levy Fight Better Than The Comics

Invincible Season 2’s Finale Did 1 Part Of Mark’s Angstrom Levy Fight Better Than The Comics

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 2, episode 8 & comics!

Invincible season 2’s finale finally showed off the climactic battle between Angstrom Levy and Mark Grayson, and the finale’s intense Mark scene did one key part of the fight much better than the comics. Although Mark Grayson and the Guardians of the Globe faced off against all kinds of threats throughout season 2, Angstrom Levy was the main villain teased throughout the eight episodes, with these teases finally being paid off in the finale. Although Invincible‘s Angstrom Levy fight stuck pretty close to the comics, it improved on one key detail that made everything much better.

Invincible season 2, part 2 is finally here, with the highly anticipated continuation of Amazon Prime Video’s critically acclaimed animated adaptation of the superhero comic series of the same name finally being released in full on the streaming service. Invincible season 2, part 2 picked up right where Invincible season 2, part 1 ended off, with Mark Grayson returning from Thraxa after having reunited with his runaway father Omni-Man. However, Mark had no idea the threats that he would have to face upon returning home, with Angstrom Levy’s villainous plan putting Mark’s world in peril in the season 2 finale.

Angstrom Levy Finally Had A Major Role In The Invincible Season 2 Finale

After Episodes Of Teases

To the delight of many Invincible fans, season 2’s villain Angstrom Levy finally had a major role in the season 2 finale. Angstrom Levy had been heavily teased throughout the beginning of season 2, with the premiere episode focusing on Angstrom’s backstory while he appeared briefly in other episodes. However, Angstrom was mostly absent from Invincible season 2, part 2, with some wondering if the Sequids would be Invincible season 2’s main villains. However, the Invincible season 2 finale changed this, finally turning Angstrom Levy into the threat that he was promised to be.

Amazon’s Invincible Improved Angstrom Levy’s Comic Story

Explaining 1 Confusing Detail

Although the Invincible TV show hits the same beats as the Invincible comic series, the season 2 finale actually improved on Angstrom Levy’s comic story. One of the most confusing parts about Angstrom Levy in the Invincible comics is why exactly he hates the main Mark Grayson. Angstrom knows that most other versions of Invincible are evil, but he is aware that Mark is good, with Angstrom even risking his life to stop the Maulers from killing him. Thus, it is confusing why Angstrom is so obsessed with killing the one good Mark later, with it never being fully explained.

However, Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible clears this confusion up by showing the conflicts that are occurring inside Angstrom Levy’s mind. While fighting Mark, Angstrom questions his motivations, with the series then showing flashbacks of alternate versions of Mark killing the friends of alternate versions of Angstrom. This highlights that the alternate versions of Angstrom that live inside his mind are the ones pushing him to kill Mark, as they cannot grasp that a version of Invincible can be good. These flashbacks are absolutely horrifying, with them further explaining Angstrom’s motivations.

Why Angstrom Levy Will Have A Bigger Role In Invincible Season 3

The Invincible War Storyline

While it may seem like the ending of Invincible season 2 concluded Angstrom Levy’s story, this actually isn’t the case. Fans of the comics know that Angstrom Levy isn’t actually dead after Mark seemingly beats him to death, with Angstrom calling inter-dimensional doctors to aid him. This allows Angstrom to return and keep plotting to kill Mark, with this storyline most likely occurring in season 3.

Angstrom Levy’s next plan in the comics involves rounding up alternate versions of Mark Grayson and sending them to the main Invincible dimension, allowing them to wreak havoc on the main Mark’s home world. In the comics, this is known as the Invincible War storyline, with this multiversal battle being one of the most well-known parts of the series. This comic storyline is one of the most exciting parts of Invincible season 3, with it finally paying off season 2’s Angstrom Levy setups.
