Invincible Season 2 Finale’s Agents Of SHIELD Actor Cameo Isn’t What Anyone Expected

Invincible Season 2 Finale’s Agents Of SHIELD Actor Cameo Isn’t What Anyone Expected

Chloe Bennet’s debut in Invincible season 2 finally came in the finale, but her role ultimately proved to be quite disappointing. Back before any of the new episodes were released on Prime Video, the show announced its star-studded voice cast for the second season. It included major new additions like Sterling K. Brown as Angstrom Levy or Peter Cullen as Thaedus, but it also revealed exciting castings like Josh Keaton, Tatiana Maslany, and Chloe Bennet. In every instance, audiences were eager to see who they would play and how big of a role they would have.

The Invincible season 2 part 2 ending was the last opportunity for any cast members who had yet to appear to be included, a list that included Keaton and Bennet. With the history that Keaton has with Spider-Man and the comic crossover between Peter Parker and Mark Grayson, hopes were high for the same experience. Ultimately, Josh Keaton voiced Agent Spider in the finale, but former Agents of SHIELD star Chloe Bennet was saved for the season’s final Marvel cameo. After it was revealed she wouldn’t be Anissa, it became more difficult to pinpoint who Bennet would play.

Why Invincible Season 2 Can’t Use Spider-Man (But The Comic Books Could)

Invincible season 2 heavily featured teases for a crossover with Spider-Man, but rights issues mean that the show couldn’t use him like the comics.

Chloe Bennet’s Invincible Role Is An Original Superpowered Character

Riley Is Not From Invincible’s Comics

Invincible season 2 episode 8 waits until almost the very end to introduce Chloe Bennet’s character. She is credited as playing Riley, who is featured in the scene marking the return of Ka-Hor. Riley and another woman enter the tomb of the supernatural mummy in the hopes of resurrecting Ka-Hor and using his powers. It is revealed that Riley has superpowers from her grandma’s side of the family. This marks a superhero return for Chloe Bennet after playing Daisy Johnson, a.k.a. Quake, for seven seasons on Agents of SHIELD.

Given Chloe Bennet’s history as a superhero for Marvel, there was always hope that Invincible would put her in another superpowered role. What was not expected was that Bennet’s character would be a totally original character. There is no character with superpowers named Riley in the Invincible comics. This means there is no information on what happens to her, what her full powers are, or what the future could hold. Considering Riley’s small presence and connection to the Invincible‘s running joke of a Ka-Hor subplot, there is a chance Riley never escapes the tomb and is never seen again.

Chloe Bennet’s Invincible Season 2 Role Was Much Smaller Than Expected

The Agents Of SHIELD Star Barely Made A Cameo In Invincible

Invincible Season 2 Chloe Bennet Characters Role

The ultimate revelation about Chloe Bennet’s Invincible season 2 role as Riley is fairly disappointing at the end of the day. There was hope that she would join the series and play one of the more pivotal female characters set to be introduced in season 2, whether that be Anissa, Andressa, Aquaria, or Telia. Instead, Bennet’s character only gets a few seconds of screen time, and the show’s typical comic accuracy is not a great indicator for Riley to blossom as an original superhero created specifically for Invincible season 3 and beyond.

While Chloe Bennet’s voice role in Invincible season 2 may have been underwhelming, all hope is not lost that she could still play a major part in the show’s future. Robert Kirkman has reused cast members for different roles on occasion, so there is a chance that Bennet has a bigger role lined up for season 3. There is also still an outside chance that Kirkman will use Riley more, potentially building on the tease of her grandmother also being a superhero. Those would be ways for Invincible to make up for Chloe Bennet’s lacking role in season 2.
