Invasion Season 2 Episode 8 Recap: Alien Language & Portals Explained

Invasion Season 2 Episode 8 Recap: Alien Language & Portals Explained

Warning: This article contains major SPOILERS for Apple TV+’s Invasion season 2.

Invasion season 2, episode 8 makes several plot progressions, hinting at how the aliens communicate and create portals for humans. However, since the show still leaves an air mystery surrounding these new developments, it is hard not to speculate how these revelations will come into play in season 2’s final episodes. Other than opening the floodgates of new narrative avenues with these revelations, Invasion season 2, episode 8 also gives a glimpse of what the military is trying to achieve by setting camp in Idabel.

Caspar and his friends also advance in a new direction toward finding answers when they finally find the other psychic kids, who claim they have seen Caspar before. Invasion season 2, episode 8 also shows how all the kids join forces to create a map of the alien consciousness while a part of Caspar still stays trapped somewhere in the hive mind. Given how episode 8 leaves so much for the viewers to unravel, here is a breakdown of all the nagging mysteries surrounding the alien hive mind in Invasion season 2, its portals, and how it uses humans as a medium to communicate.

The Aliens’ Binary Code Language In Invasion Season 2 Explained

Invasion Season 2 Episode 8 Recap: Alien Language & Portals Explained

In Invasion season 2, episode 8’s opening moments, Mitsuki struggles to decode the alien language. However, when she looks at the other people who came in contact with the alien power source in the fallen ship, she realizes that there is more to their behaviorism than meets the eye. Mitsuki and the team previously believed that these people had suffered neurological damage after interacting with the alien and lost their ability to communicate. Mitsuki deduces that they did not lose their ability to communicate and, instead, somehow learned to communicate in the alien’s language to mediate human-alien interactions.

Although the episode does not reveal what they are trying to say, it shows how they use binary code to make the alien language comprehensible to humans. In the binary system, information is represented using only 0s and 1s, where 0 typically stands for low voltage, and 1 represents high voltage. The aliens are likely using binary code to contact humans not only because of the simplicity and universality of the language but also because it is compatible with human technology. The aliens also seem to have created highly advanced interconnected technological systems. Since binary code is closely linked with digital computing, it likely allows the aliens to seamlessly transmit information through their complex technological systems.

What Is The Military Doing In Idabel?

Trevante finally breaks into Project Idabel’s crater in Invasion season 2, episode 8. He also discovers that the military has captured all the people previously abducted by the aliens and is running experiments on them. However, before he can figure out what is going on down there, he gets captured by the authorities that run the place. Trevante tries to convince them to let him join their team, but they imprison him in the underground facility. The former marine is yet to find answers about Project Idabel, but it is evident that the abducted people are still connected to the alien hive mind.

Their behaviorisms seem similar to the ones who came in contact with the alien power source in the fallen Amazon ship. The military also uses devices to calculate the electric impulses and brain activity of the abducted humans, hinting that they are trying to decode the alien language like Mitsuki. The last few episodes of Apple TV+’s Invasion will likely reveal whether they have made any progress with it and how their end of the research will align with Mitsuki’s learnings of the alien’s language, powers, and motives.

What Happened To Nikhil In Invasion Season 2 Episode 8?

Nikhil plotting an attack on aliens in Invasion season 2

With humanity gradually losing its battle against the aliens, Nikhil faces the wrath of the world leaders and feels pressured to do something to stop it. Therefore, when Maya decides to quit her job at the facility, and Mitsuki shows signs of resistance, Nikhil panics and enters the power source room by himself. Invasion had previously established that high-frequency electrical signals had a detrimental effect on the alien power source. Nikhil uses the same signals to confront the alien but gets attacked by it. For a while, it seems like the alien swallows him inside its consciousness and then spits him out, leaving him dead or unconscious.

Although the episode does not reveal Nikhil’s fate, he might have died. If he is, by any chance, still alive, he might start communicating in the same binary code as others, which could provide some concrete answers to Maya and Mitsuki. With Nikhil out of the way, Maya and Mitsuki will also not be held back by any authority, allowing them to experiment patiently with the survivors.

What’s On The Other Side Of The Alien Portals?

A scene from Invasion on Apple TV Plus

Mitsuki realizes that the alien power source is less of a weapon and more of a portal to enter “the other side.” The other side seems to be a gateway into the alien’s consciousness, something along the lines of the upside-down in Stranger Things. Unfortunately, towards the end of Invasion season 2, episode 8, Mitsuki destroys the alien portal to save Nikhil. Since the alien portal could have been a means to understand the aliens and their motives, Mitsuki’s mistake might have significant negative consequences for humanity. However, it seems likely that there will be other ways to enter the alien consciousness.

Although Invasion season 2, episode 8 intentionally avoids revealing too much about “the other side,” it seems likely that it presents a pathway to the alien’s mothership. Time and again, the show has emphasized how the alien is more or less of a giant brain, with its technologies and other components being neurons connected to a central system. This could mean that if Mitsuki enters the other side, she will find a route to the mothership, where the main component of the alien mind exists.

Are There Other Alien Portals On Earth?

It seems unlikely that humans will find other similar portals on Earth. However, this does not mean that Mitsuki will not be able to go to “the other side” again. Invasion has previously emphasized how all the alien technologies and creatures have a deep sense of connection to each other. Even the abducted people and the psychic kids seemingly have links with the alien hive mind. If Mitsuki, too, manages to tap into the alien’s network by understanding its interconnectedness, she might be able to transcend to the other side and find a way to stop the aliens in Invasion season 2’s final episodes.
