International Robin Hood Trailer

The first teaser trailer for Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood appeared online last week, giving us our first proper taste of the Alien director’s take on the classic character, as well as Russell Crowe’s portrayal of him. I have to say I agree with fellow Screen Rant writer Paul Young that the trailer was a little disappointing, mostly because the heavy, beating rock music overpowered everything. It wasn’t bad or anything, as what was happening on-screen looked good to me, but just the wrong choice of music IMO.

Now we have a new international trailer for Robin Hood that comes in and saves the day by remedying the problems I had with the first (domestic) teaser. It does this by replacing the heavy beating rock music (which was reminiscent of the second Clash of the Titans trailer) to some which is far more suited to the movie, consisting of violins and so forth (although drumming is still prevalent).

Before I get onto my thoughts on it, check out the new trailer for yourself below, courtesy of Yahoo:

The latest trailer gives us a chance to get more of a feel for the story, not the least of which is because we get to hear a lot more dialogue than just a line or two from Crowe as the titular character. I must admit; I was wary of such a big name filling the shoes of one of the most well-known and iconic characters of all time (I just know I’m going to get Robert Downey Jr. playing Sherlock Holmes thrown in my face 😛 ), but as time has gone on, and we’ve seen more, Crowe looks to me like he fits the part well.

Crowe and Scott are obviously going for a more darker and grittier action-orientated portrayal of Hood, as opposed to some of the perhaps more light-hearted incarnations seen before. I suppose that’s the direction it would have to go if it’s to be unleashed on a modern audience accustomed to a faster pace and a heap load of action (than there maybe was some years ago).

Thoughts on the latest trailer for Robin Hood? Do you think Crowe is a good fit as Robin Hood? And is Scott the right man to direct a movie about him?

Robin Hood stars Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Matthew Macfadyen, Mark Strong, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, William Hurt and Max von Sydow. It is scheduled to be released on May 14th, 2010.
