Pixar has released a new trailer for Inside Out 2, revealing the cast for all four new emotions.

These four emotions will include Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment. In addition to Hawke as Anxiety, the additional emotions will be played by Ayo Edebiri (Envy), Adèle Exarchopoulos (Ennui), and Paul Walter Hauser (Embarrassment). In the trailer, these emotions are gradually introduced as the original emotions: Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Fear, and Anger, are pushed to the side and “bottled up” in favor of the raging new emotions.

Understanding Inside Out 2’s New Characters

Inside Out 2 Trailer: All 4 New Emotions Revealed & Voice Cast Confirmed

Inside Out 2 has undergone a significant casting shakeup from the first film. For starters, the emotions of Fear and Disgust have been replaced by Tony Hale and Liza Lapira, after previously having been played by Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling. These replacements came down to reported contract disputes between Hader, Kaling, and the studio, as the actors complained about the pay disparity between them and Joy actress Amy Poehler.

Inside Out 2 is the long-awaited sequel to the mind-bending original Pixar film. Find out what’s been revealed about the anticipated movie.

Pixar released new descriptions for the additional characters. Envy is described as one who “may be small but she sure knows what she wants.” Ennui “couldn’t care less” and is “bored and lethargic with a well-practiced eye-roll,” adding “teenage apathy to Riley’s personality.” Embarrassment, on the other hand “likes to lay low” even though that task “isn’t easy for this burly guy with a bright blush-pink complexion.”

From the looks of the Inside Out 2 trailer, the new emotions will add an interesting dynamic to the anticipated sequel. As Riley experiences puberty and the hormonal woes of early adolescence, her emotions become wrapped in conflict and suppression. This will create an interesting journey for the anthropomorphized emotions as they visualize these challenges through their adventures through Riley’s brain.
