Inglorious Bastards Casting Updates

[UPDATE: Simon Pegg will not be joining the cast after all.]

Brad Pitt is a bastard.

Nope, I’m not starting up a Jennifer Aniston fansite, I’m letting you know that it is now official that Pitt has signed on to play Aldo Raines in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards.

This isn’t exactly big news as we’ve been talking about it for weeks, but Mr Pitt has now put his signature on the dotted line.

Also signing up to the WWII flick is Hostel director Eli Roth. Roth who will play Sgt. Donnie Donowitz had a small role in QT’s Grindhouse segment Death Proof, and the Pulp Fiction director also produced both Hostel films, so the two guys are obviously buddies.

The Office cast member, writer and producer BJ Novak has also come on-board; as has Shaun of The Dead star Simon Pegg (replacing Tim Roth); David Krumholtz (Numbers) and Nastassja Kinski.

The cast is shaping up nicely, but there’s just one thing – where are the mega A-Lister’s like Stalllone, Sandler and Willis who were mooted when Tarantino was writing the script?

Well, that was before Pitt’s deal, which gives his 20% of the first dollar gross, a handsome reward for a handsome man – some might say. This deal decreases for Pitt if another big star with profit participation signs up, so maybe Pitt doesn’t want to share his money. However, that’s unlikely as he is an actor who likes to surround himself with good talent, and take a pay cut when needed, so there is still a chance we could see another star or two conscript and go off to war.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining here. Well I am. A bit.

I’d love to see huge stars in a Tarantino war movie. What could Willis and Stallone be doing at the minute which couldn’t be dropped for Quentin Tarantino’s film (except maybe holding each other up)?

There will be more casting announcements soon, as Tarantino starts shooting in October, in the hopes of making the Cannes film festival next year.

More when we get it.
