Indiana Jones and the dynamic duo of Calvin and Hobbes come together in adventure-filled art that pays homage to Bill Watterson’s iconic art style. While it may seem like an unusual team-up, the combination is absolutely brilliant, blending two beloved fandoms to create something exceptionally unique. However, this piece does raise an important question: Who’s the better adventurer, Indiana or Calvin?

Adam Murphy, a seasoned artist with experience at Disney, Lucasfilm, Animal Logic, Netflix, Marvel, and Nickelodeon, has taken to Instagram to unveil the first-ever adventure-bound team-up of Indiana Jones and Calvin and Hobbes.

In Murphy’s artwork, Indiana Jones is depicted in his classic attire, complete with his signature whip, fedora, and satchel, joined by Calvin and Hobbes as they scrutinize what appears to be a treasure map. While Calvin appears confident in his assessment of the map, Indiana seems rather skeptical, injecting a humorous twist into the unfolding scene.

Meanwhile, Indiana Jones has emerged as one of the most iconic adventurers in modern pop culture, embarking on journeys, some incredibly perilous, that have taken him across the globe and led to remarkable archaeological discoveries. Hence, Murphy clearly knew what he was doing by bringing these icons together.

In his post, Murphy mentions that his drawings were an exercise in recreating Bill Watterson’s art style, and it can certainly be considered a success in that regard. Murphy adeptly captures the dynamic linework, simple yet detailed character designs, and vibrant use of color that Watterson was known for. Like Watterson, Murphy imbues Indiana, Calvin, and Hobbes with a distinctive cartoony flair, featuring exaggerated facial expressions and body language that convey a wide range of emotions. Hence, capturing the timeless, whimsical, and personality-filled art style that made Watterson famous.
