Indiana Jones 5 Image Shows More Of Chaotic Tuk-Tuk Chase Scene

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘s chaotic tuk-tuk chase scene is shown off in more detail in a new image from James Mangold’s upcoming adventure film. Harrison Ford’s titular archeologist is set to return for one last ride in the follow-up to Steven Spielberg’s divisive Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The film, which is the first in the franchise to not have Spielberg at the helm, takes place primarily in 1969 with the space race as a backdrop. In addition to Ford, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny brings back John Rhys-Davies’ Sallah while also introducing new characters played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Toby Jones, and Boyd Holbrook.

After first being glimpsed in the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny trailer, the film’s tuk-tuk car chase scene is now shown off in more detail in a new image shared by USA Today. The image features Ford at the wheel with Waller-Bridge’s Helena, Indy’s goddaughter, in the backseat with an unknown character. Check out the new image from Mangold’s highly-anticipated film below:

How Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Character Can Improve Indiana Jones 5

It wouldn’t be an Indiana Jones movie without a plucky sidekick and Waller-Bridge’s Helena is shaping up to be a very interesting addition to the franchise. After Mutt (Shia LaBeouf), Indy’s son, proved to be a somewhat divisive part of the 2008 entry, Helena could right the ship, so to speak, and help the upcoming film feel closer to the Indiana Jones adventures of old. To be fair to Mutt, it seems like the actual character and his relationship to Indy wasn’t the main problem in the 2008 film, but rather the fact that he was at the center of some truly ridiculous action set pieces, including the infamous vine-swinging sequence. By having Helena be more grounded in reality as a character, she could end up bringing out a similar fatherly side to Indy but without pushing the franchise too far from its roots.

While some of Indy’s bravest feats have featured the character on his own, it’s his dynamic with others that often makes the movies really sing. Marion (Karen Allen) in Raiders of the Lost Ark is Indy’s strongest love interest while Short Round (Ke Huy Quan) in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom remains a fan-favorite franchise supporting character. In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Indy is paired with his father, played by the late Sean Connery, who proved to be a powerful addition to the franchise. Each of these iconic characters were not only interesting in their own right but also allowed audiences to see different sides of Ford’s hero, creating empathy and further building out his backstory.

It remains to be seen who Helena’s parents are and why they entrusted Indy to be her godfather, but the upcoming film will evidently reveal more of this mystery. It’s still unclear just how large of a role Waller-Bridge will play as Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘s Helena, but promotional material, including the newest image, suggests it will be a prominent one. With over seven months still to go before the movie hits theaters, fans will surely be treated to another trailer that reveals more information in due time.
