Incredible Tech Cosplay Honors The Bad Batch’s Fallen Hero

This Star Wars: The Bad Batch cosplay beautifully honors Clone Force 99’s fallen hero, Tech. The clones of Clone Force 99 each have special abilities due to their genetic alterations. Tech was, as his name implies, the crew’s technology wizard, hacking into computers and ship controls, calculating the odds, and ensuring his and his friends’ missions went smoothly. More than that, however, he was the heart of the group, learning from his friends’ actions and words and teaching himself to be more outgoing and understanding of other people’s feelings. Tech’s sacrifice in The Bad Batch season 2 is one of the franchise’s most tragic deaths.

Criss Lightning Forge’s Tech cosplay is a perfect recreation of Tech’s suit before and just after the end of the Clone Wars, including his trademark vizor, goggles, and pack. The detail in this cosplay really is second to none. It looks like it jumped off the screen.

Given all the additional supplies he was always carrying, Tech was usually ready for any eventuality, which made his surprising sacrifice in The Bad Batch season 2, episode 16, “Plan 99,” all the more devastating. Like always, though, he was quick on his feet, assessing the situation as it unfolded and determining that, if he wanted to save his friends, he would need to do something heroic and drastic.

Should Tech Return In Star Wars: The Bad Batch’s Final Season?

Surprising resurrections in Star Wars have happened before. Asajj Ventress was thought to have died in the novel Dark Disciple by Christie Golden only to return later in The Bad Batch, and Ahsoka Tano has been brought back from the dead, too. Before Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3 aired, there was a theory going around that Tech would be resurrected with a “Winter Soldier” type twist. The mysterious shadow operative teased in The Bad Batch season 3 trailer and featured in the show’s final season was thought to have been Tech, “saved” by the Empire and brainwashed into becoming one of their elite soldiers.

It’s Time To Face Facts: The Bad Batch Isn’t Bringing Tech Back

Despite hopes that Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3 will bring Tech back from the dead, it seems increasingly likely that this will not happen.

Now, however, there are only three episodes left in The Bad Batch’s final season, and it doesn’t look like Tech is coming back. The mystery of the shadow operatives may remain a mystery – despite the agent’s voice fluctuating between the members of the Bad Batch – and Tech may have genuinely given up his life. Though Tech has been missed throughout The Bad Batch season 3, the story is probably better off without his return. Star Wars deaths should mean something, and a character with no Jedi powers like Tech sacrificing himself for the sake of his friends is an undeniably meaningful yet tragic moment.
