Incredible New Frieren Cosplay Shows How the Fantasy Anime Hit Could Work in Live Action

Madhouse’s adaptation of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has been a recent highlight for many anime fans, and nothing shows this better than a stunning live recreation of its main protagonist. A cosplayer and photographer worked together to create an excellently composed shot depicting the elf. While live-action adaptations of an anime are still met with uncertainty, fans can at least see a glimpse of how Frieren could look on camera.

The image was originally posted online on Reddit. While other cosplays of Frieren can easily be found online, even on the same website, excellent composition and lighting by the photographer lend the image some pleasing aesthetics that improve the appearance of the model from this particular thread.

Frieren Jumps Into Reality With Stunning Cosplay

As indicated by the online post, the photograph is credited to two people: the photographer known as “colorplane”, who also uploaded the image, and the model “akarria_cosplay”, who wore the outfit. While the Frieren subreddit is populated by other cosplays of the elven mage, it appears having a dedicated photographer makes a difference in improving presentation. The camera’s focus on the model’s face masks some of the details on the costume that can be seen in other cosplays, like the visible stitching. Likewise, the lighting helps mute the gold coloring, whereas some other photos inadvertently make the same material appear too reflective.

That is not to say akarria_cosplay offers nothing on her end. Little touches, like the solid white eyebrows drawn onto her face, and the extra effort to emphasize the lower eyelashes add eye-catching anime-esque details. This sort of attention, both in costume and composition, is what makes the cosplay appealing, as opposed to being just a photo in costume. All in all, it’s an exceptional depiction of the character, which also makes one question how difficult it would be to bring Frieren to life with the right actors. Fantasy works are still popular in any form, so it is not hard to imagine another adaptation.

While it is a world of dragons and monsters, the characters of Frieren are surprisingly understated in their outfits. The elf’s own appearance is utilitarian and uses a variety of solid colors, which makes it fairly approachable in terms of costume design. As the cosplay uploaded by colorplane and others show, it is not hard to dress up as the great mage, the only issue is how to look good doing so. But if Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End ever finds itself becoming a live-action series, it is safe to say that showrunners will have no lack of reference material.
