“I’m Thinking Like 100 Seasons”: Invincible Creator Has Ambitious Plans For The Show’s Future

Invincible creator Robert Kirkman has expressed ambitious plans for the franchise’s future, claiming it could last for many more seasons. The animated superhero show is adapted from Kirkman’s comic series of the same name, following teenager Mark Grayson as he develops superpowers. Season 2 of the show is currently airing, still covering some of the early issues of the source material.

Speaking with Collider, Kirkman revealed that, despite Invincible season 2 only just reaching its halfway point, he wants the show to last for as many seasons as possible. The creator said he has a plan for the show’s adaptation of the comic, but claims he would want the series to last for 100 seasons if it were possible. Check out what Kirkman had to say below:

So, I’m writing every season with everybody. I’m working on every season with it in mind that we’re gonna go for as long as we need to go to fully adapt the comics because I want, if we are lucky enough and fortunate enough to be able to do that, for it all to be seamless. And so when we were writing Season 1, I was like, “Okay, well, that’s gonna lead to this. That’ll happen in Season 3, and this will happen in Season 4, and then if we do it that way, that can happen in Season 5 and Season 6.” I’ve got a rough road map for the whole thing from the beginning. So, that hasn’t really changed. We don’t have anything to announce yet for anything past Season 3, but we’re very hopeful that we’ll get to go for a good long while. I mean, I’m thinking like 100 seasons.

How Many Seasons Could Invincible Have?

Kirkman previously stated Invincible could take until season 8 to cover the entire 144-issue comic series. However, based on the creator’s most recent statement about pushing the series until 100 seasons, it’s clear he has ideas that could go beyond the source material. While this may not literally mean a season count in the triple digits, it does underscore how much could happen in the show’s future.

At present, Angstrom Levy is season 2’s core antagonist, though other threats like the sequids and the Lizard League have also been established. Season 2, episode 3 featured the return of Omni-Man as well, who will no doubt be a central figure in the developments to come. Alongside new threats, the series also features a fleshed-out story for Debbie Grayson, adding original content alongside what gets pulled from the source material.

Given the plethora of characters and events in the show and that have yet to be introduced, the series could easily last longer than Kirkman’s season 8 plan with enough original material added. Since Invincible season 3 has already been confirmed, it appears the show is slowly building toward the finale it’s aiming for. But, given how much its creator wants to explore the series, there’s always the possibility even more seasons are produced.
