“I’m Speechless”: Star Wars Fans Lose Their Minds Over Unexpected Clone Wars Namedrop

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Ahsoka episode 7

Ahsoka episode 7 features a massive reference to none other than Asajj Ventress, and Star Wars fans are freaking out. Coming from Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), the reference to the former Sith assassin sees her name finally being said out loud for the very first time in live-action. As such, it’s a major milestone that has naturally generated some big excitement online, especially from fans of the animated Clone Wars series.

At the beginning of Ahsoka episode 7, the titular Jedi (played by Rosario Dawson) is training with a hologram of her master Anakin Skywalker. Offering her guidance and motivation to keep honing her skills, this past recording of Skywalker name-drops the three biggest names from the Separatist Alliance during the Clone Wars era. However, only one name in particular has drawn such massive excitement seen across several reactions on Twitter, a few of which can be viewed below including one from @nightwaynes who was “speechless”:

@joaovjttor is quite happy about the Ventress name-drop too, showing off a series of images of the Sith assassin during The Clone Wars:

Ahsoka Finally Gives Ventress The Respect She Deserves

“I’m Speechless”: Star Wars Fans Lose Their Minds Over Unexpected Clone Wars Namedrop

As said by Anakin himself in his holo-recording, “In this war, you will face more than just droids. General Grievous, Asajj Ventress, even Count Dooku. You could face any one of them on the battlefield.” While both Grievous and Dooku were featured in the prequel films, Ventress was only ever featured in the animated Clone Wars series itself. As such, Skywalker name-dropping Ventress is quite momentous for the new Star Wars show. After all, Ventress’ incredibly popular arc in the Clone Wars was quite dynamic and multi-layered, especially after she was betrayed by Dooku despite having been his apprentice.

Considering all the ties and revelations about the Nightsisters in Ahsoka, it’s rather fitting that Asajj Ventress’ first ever name-drop has come in a show full of references to her fellow sisters whom she reunited with after Dooku’s betrayal. Although her full story and redemption never happened in the final seasons of Clone Wars, it was ultimately revealed in the novel Dark Disciple by Christie Golden. Nevertheless, it’s very exciting to see Ventress getting the respect she deserves with this new live-action name-drop in Ahsoka.

Ahsoka releases new episodes Tuesdays at 6 pm PT / 9 pm ET on Disney+.
