Kenneth Mitchell’s fellow Star Trek actors shared their emotional and poignant reactions to his death on social media. Mitchell sadly died at 49 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, which he has been battling since 2019. The Canadian actor played multiple roles in Star Trek: Discovery seasons 1-3, including Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha, Tenavik, and Minister Aurellio. Kenneth’s wife Susan and his children, Lilah and Kallum, have set up a GoFundMe.

Mitchell will be missed by the Star Trek community
Kenneth Mitchell’s courageous battle with ALS inspired the entire Star Trek community, from his fellow actors to producers, to the numerous fans who enjoyed meeting him at conventions. Even after Mitchell began using a power wheelchair in 2019, he was a popular presence at Star Trek events and served as an inspiration. On his Instagram, Mitchell shared a touching passage he titled “Connect” found at the end of this post:
Besides his work on Star Trek: Discovery, Kenneth Mitchell is known for playing Eric Green in Jericho, Wes in Switched at Birth, Joshua Dodd in Nancy Drew, Deacon Joe Hurley in Frequency, and Joseph Danvers in Captain Marvel, among the dozens of roles he played in his successful TV and film career. Mitchell may have been proudest of his role as Deke Slayton in The Astronaut Wives Club. With and without Klingon makeup and prosthetics, Kenneth Mitchell will remain a beloved part of Star Trek, and he will be missed.
