John Wick director Chad Stahelski wants to make a Star Wars movie. A former stuntman, Stahelski co-directed the first John Wick film alongside an uncredited David Leitch and returned as the sole director of the three sequels – John Wick: Chapter 2, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and John Wick: Chapter 4. Though those four films comprise his entire directorial filmography, Stahelski is currently developing an array of projects outside the John Wick franchise, including a Highlander remake and adaptations of Rainbow Six, Ghost of Tsushima, Black Samurai, and Shibumi.
Now, during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz, Stahelski expressed interest in making a Star Wars movie.
The director declared himself “a Star Wars guy,” saying that the original movie had a significant impact on his life. He also appealed to Disney by teasing his bold “takes” on the franchise and went on to stress that he prefers to work without constraints. Read Stahelski’s full comments below:
I’m a Star Wars guy. The first Star Wars changed my life path. Maybe someday out there, Disney if you’re listening, hit me in a couple of years. I have a couple of takes for Star Wars. I’d take a swing at that, see if Disney could survive me… It is a big ego dump when you’re like, “Alright, do I think I can take them?” I still have a little bit of a competitor mindset left in me. I’m going, “No that’s cool and I’m very flattered and I’m very honored,” but at the same time, I want to take a swing. It’s like Rocky. I gotta know.

What Would Chad Stahelski’s Star Wars Be Like?
Stahelski’s Star Wars would have a distinctly different style compared to the franchise’s traditional films. Using his expertise as a stunt coordinator, Stahelski has become renowned for his ability to create highly choreographed fight scenes in the John Wick movies. Chiefly, a Star Wars movie directed by Stahelski would feature highly choreographed lightsaber battles with a focus on fluidity and precision. In John Wick, Stahelski’s distinct visual style is characterized by a carefully crafted neon color palette, which would look equally striking in Star Wars, bringing a fresh perspective to the iconic universe.
In John Wick, Stahelski prioritizes practical effects, stunts, and real locations. In turn, his Star Wars movie might rely less on CGI, bringing a more grounded and tactile feel to a galaxy far, far away. Along those same lines, John Wick is gritty and realistic, so Stahelski’s Star Wars should take on a darker and more mature tone compared to previous installments, save for maybe Rogue One and Andor. Though such a project will probably never be made, combining Stahelski’s signature style with the imaginative world of Star Wars would result in a unique and exciting experience for audiences.
