Idris Elba Reviews His Knuckles Co-Stars’ Impressions Of His Sonic Character

Idris Elba has reviewed his Knuckles co-stars doing impressions of his Sonic the Hedgehog character ahead of the red echidna’s upcoming TV show. Set prior to the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the miniseries follows Knuckles as he trains Wade Whipple in the ways of echidna warriors. However, he ends up being hunted down by the Buyer, a mysterious villain trying to steal the central character’s power for his own nefarious reasons.

Now, Paramount Plus has released a video of Elba reacting to his co-stars on the Knuckles spinoff show do impressions of his titular character.

In the video, the star judges many different impressions, saying how close they are to his own voice for the echidna. He ends up deciding that Ellie Taylor’s is the best out of those who end up trying to make the voice work.

Why Idris Elba Was The Perfect Casting Choice For Knuckles

Elba first voiced Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, where the character is tricked by Dr. Robotnik into showing him the location of the powerful Master Emerald. After realizing the error of his ways, he helps Sonic and Tails defeat the mad scientist, before living with Tom and Maddie Wachowski. However, he maintains a boisterous attitude mixed with a gullible nature, which his voice actor is able to expertly deliver on in a hilarious way.

The fact that Elba is reprising his role for the cast of Knuckles shows just how well he’s able to bring the headstrong, brave echidna to life. As attempts by the cast illustrate, it’s no small feat trying to voice the character in the same way his voice actor does. Because his voice offers the right balance between a gruff warrior and a curious young man, it makes it difficult to imagine any other actor trying to bring the character into the franchise’s American cinematic universe.

Because of how central a character he’s been for the franchise so far, the Knuckles show will no doubt continue to show Elba’s range for the character as he goes on a new adventure. This talent will also translate over to Sonic the Hedgehog 3, when he comes face-to-face with a new opponent to the main trio in the form of Shadow. With the spinoff series just a few weeks away, it won’t be long until the full scope of the actor’s ability to bring Knuckles to life becomes known.
