Iconic Gotham Hero Becomes the New Joker in Twisted Cosplay

Red Hood, the violent hero of the Bat-Family, has been given a Joker-ized cosplay. If there’s one person that the Red Hood hates more than criminals, it’s the Joker. Now, an expert cosplayer has captured Jason Todd’s worst fear of becoming the next Clown Prince of Crime and hunting down all the criminals and heroes in Gotham.

In a Reddit post, photographer nycosplayer collaborated with pro cosplayer, @da_ancientgod, on this dark and twisted photoshoot that combines Jason Todd with the villainous Batman Who Laughs. This cosplay, known as “The Red Hood Who Laughs,” is seen freefalling through a window like Batman might, but still has a lot of key differences.

This Red Hood has a Batman symbol on his armor, a Joker color scheme of dark purple and green, and a pasty white hood graffitied with Joker face paint. As a final touch to this photoshoot, Joker playing cards are falling from the sky to amplify Jason Todd’s descent into clown madness. It is an incredible display of creativity that gives fans a shocking glimpse of a “What If” Batman story.

Red Hood Just Betrayed Everything He Stands for… By Joining the Joker

There are few characters in comics who have a more antagonistic relationship than Red Hood and Joker, which is why this new twist is so shocking.

The Red Hood Becomes The New Joker

The Joker is more frightening than ever now that he could potentially brainwash one of Batman’s most dangerous allies. Jason Todd was the second Robin, killed by the Joker in the infamous 1988 “A Death in the Family” story by Jim Starlin and Jim Aparo. Thanks to Superboy-Prime punching the fabric of reality, Jason was resurrected and restored to full health by Ra’s and Talia al Ghul with the Lazarus Pit. As explored in 2005’s Batman: Under the Red Hood storyline, Jason returns to Gotham as the murderous anti-hero, Red Hood, with one mission: Kill the Joker. But what if the Joker had something more sinister planned for the returning Jason?

Like his plot in the Batman Beyond animated movie, Return Of the Joker, the Joker could take the most tortured sidekick of Batman and turn him into a new Joker. Imagine if, after Superboy-Prime resurrected Jason, the Joker went and found him before the League of Assassins. He could torture and brainwash Jason by reliving images of his death over and over until his mind shattered, similar to how the Batman Who Laughs was created. With his new protégé and knowledge of Batman’s secrets, including his identity, the Joker and the Red Hood would turn Gotham City into a never-ending nightmare.

The Red Hood Who Laughs is Gotham’s Worst Nightmare

The Batman Who Laughs is a terrifying take on a Joker-ized Bruce Wayne. But Red Hood, as a brainwashed Joker, would equally spell disaster for the entire Bat-Family. The team would be forced to detain Jason, except that they still view him as a brother and a tortured soul. Joker could also turn his pet project loose on the rogues’ gallery of Gotham that stands in his way, making Red Hood into a killer again. Batman would have to call in some serious favors with the Justice League to deal with two Jokers in the city. This interesting and wild idea of a Red Hood version of Joker born out of an amazing cosplay is truly something special.
