iCarly: 10 Questions The Reboot Needs To Answer

iCarly: 10 Questions The Reboot Needs To Answer

Nickelodeon’s hit children’s sitcom iCarly debuted in September of 2007 and went for five seasons until the fall of 2012. In that time, it garnered mixed reviews from critics, but a wave of appreciation and admiration from audiences. The 2010 episode, “iSaved Your Life” reached 11.2 million viewers on its premiere date, becoming the second-most-viewed telecast in Nickelodeon’s storied past.

With Netflix recently adding the series to its lineup, there was bound to be a resurgence in popularity, mainly due to the audience that grew up with the show now re-visiting it. A revival was indefinite, and, with the new show’s premiere coming fast on June 17, there are a lot of questions about the iCarly characters that will hopefully be answered in the new Paramount+ series.

Where’s Gibby?

Stars Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor, and Nathan Kress are already set to star in the revival, but one question fans have had since the show’s announcement is whether or not the energetic, always confident Gibby will also return.

Noah Munck, who played the character in the original series, is currently a supporting cast member on the ABC comedy The Goldbergs, and, since he still has a foothold in the television world, it could be assumed that he will make some sort of cameo. As of now, Munck has not commented on whether or not he will be included.

What Happened To The Web Show?

The central focus of iCarly has always been the titular web show started by Cosgrove’s Carly and her best friend, Sam Puckett. In the last episode of the show’s original run, the web show was put on hiatus while Carly traveled to Italy with her father. Fans can’t help but wonder if Carly ever returned to continue the popular show, or if it was abandoned altogether.

Will Freddie and Carly End Up Together?

The main romance in the show came from Nathan Kress’ Freddie and his obsession with Carly. They ended the series on a heartwarming note with Carly confessing her love for her friend and the two of them sharing a touching moment in Carly’s studio.

We know that the revival is set to take place 10 years after the end of the original and that Carly will reconnect with her friends, but fans are unsure whether the romance between the two will continue or if it will be dropped entirely.

Has Spencer Succeeded?

Spencer was by far the best character on iCarly. His constant positive attitude and childish hijinks only fueled his passion to become a highly-paid, popular artist. It seems that, in the short previews we have so far gotten of the revival, Spencer has seen some amount of success. Still, has he achieved his ultimate goal of being recognized as a professional artist, or has he made his money in other ventures?

Where Has Nevel Been Up To?

The web critic and host of Nevelocity.com was the ultimate villain of iCarly. Fans were excited to see that the character portrayed by Reed Alexander is set to appear in the revival, although the sort of person he has grown into is currently unknown.

Perhaps he has achieved his dream of owning a men’s haberdashery, or, more likely, he is still on his quest to get rid of Carly and the fame she gained from the web show.

Does Spencer Have His Own Family?

Carly’s brother, Spencer, has a number of romantic interests throughout iCarly, including a mention in the final episode about a woman named Audrey, who was apparently the only girl Spencer ever truly loved.

Fans are wondering whether Spencer will have a family of his own in the revival, if the rumored Audrey will be a part of it, and how Carly will react to her brother’s family life.

Mrs. Shay is neither named nor seen throughout the Nickelodeon show, and their father, Colonel Shay, is only seen on camera in the very last episode.

With such a strange relationship between Carly and Spencer and their parents, it seems like television gold to delve into the family’s history and give us an answer as to where their mother is.

Will Other Nick Shows Be Referenced?

Cast of Victorious

Taking place within a shared Nickelodeon universe, there were plenty of characters, brands, and locations that had crossovers with iCarly. Famously, Carly and friends met the cast of Victorious in a three-part television movie, and characters from other popular Nick hits such as Drake and Josh and Zoey 101 also had cameos. Fans can only hope that this kind of crossover event will take place during the revival.

Guest Stars

Carly, Sam, and Freddie met a handful of celebrities during their time hosting their web show. One Direction, Emma Stone, First Lady Michelle Obama, and even Kenan Thompson made appearances during the show’s run, proving that the show had appeal outside of being strictly for kids. Fans wonder if more stars will have guests spots in the revival or if we will solely stick with the main cast.

Where’s Sam?

The question every iCarly fan asked once the revival was announced was answered early on; Sam Puckett will sadly not be making an appearance in the Paramount+ sitcom. Jeannette McCurdy has retired from the business and has publicly stated she will not be returning to iCarly due to the simple fact that she did not enjoy acting.

But the question still remains: where is Sam? Since she was such a popular character and a close friend to both Carly and Freddie, at least a brief mention of Carly’s former cohost is to be expected, but how much of her story after iCarly’s end will be revealed?
