Elvis star Austin Butler reflects on his teen roles on television stars. Butler first acted on television in 2006, at the age of 15, in an episode of Hannah Montana. He went on to play in several other TV shows, including Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, Zoey 101, and The Carrie Diaries.

Speaking with Esquire, Butler comments on his early roles. Butler admits that he “would probably cringe” if he watched some of those things back. However, Butler also acknowledged that he “wouldn’t be here” in his career “without all of that.” Check out the full quote from Butler below:

“I know that I would probably cringe if I watched some things, because you’re seeing yourself through the learning process. But that was my schooling. I wouldn’t be here without all of that.”

Austin Butler’s Career Trajectory Explained

Acting in the aforementioned series along with one-off episodes of shows like iCarly and Wizards of Waverly Place, Butler took a very common career path for the actors of his generation. Along the way, he also acted in some B movies, including 2009’s Aliens in the Attic. His career first shifted when Butler was able to act in a film by the visionary Quentin Tarantino: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

In terms of releases, Butler’s career was dormant for three years after the 2019 release of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Then, Butler’s world changed again when he played the titular King of Pop in Elvis. Lauded for his suave performance and well-rehearsed Elvis voice, Butler received copious praise for the role, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and a Golden Globe win for Best Actor – Drama.
