“I Miss Gabby So Much”: Eva Longoria Hopeful For A Desperate Housewives Revival

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria reveals she would be interested in a revival. The series, created by Marc Cherry, premiered on ABC in 2004 and quickly found success, generating impressive ratings during its eight-season run. It explored the lives of four women residing in a seemingly picture-perfect community while uncovering many of their secrets through the narration of deceased neighbor Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong). Longoria portrayed Gabrielle Solis, a former model whose complicated marriage to Carlos (Ricardo Antonio Chavira) was an important storyline throughout.

A Desperate Housewives reboot has already been dismissed by several cast members, but Longoria still appears eager to return. In a recent interview with Access, the star shared that she would “be the first to sign up” for a potential revival but admitted that it seems unlikely to happen. Read Longoria’s comments regarding a Desperate Housewives revival below:

She’d be an influencer for sure. She’d be a social media mogul. I would be the first to sign up for a [revival]. I miss Gabby so much. I miss being Gabby Solis. Marc, our creator, wouldn’t do it. I’ve talked to him several times. He feels like there’s no, “Why now?” For the sake of a [revival], he wouldn’t do it. He feels like, ‘What do I have to say with these characters that we haven’t already fully mined?’ I come from the generation of 24 episodes a year for a decade of our lives. We fully mined those characters. There was nobody on the street that was left to sleep with. I slept with everybody. I was like, ‘Uh, what do we do now?’ 20 years ago we were saying something about ageism and saying something about being a housewife, and it was shocking. There’s a lot of things we said and did that was groundbreaking, and I don’t think it is now. Now it’s like the norm.

Could A Desperate Housewives Revival Happen?

During its original run, Desperate Housewives was one of the most-watched shows on television and earned significant award recognition, including a Golden Globe nomination for Longoria’s work as Gabrielle. With questions about a possible revival, it is worth wondering how effective the series would be over a decade after its conclusion, which Longoria touched on. Another star, Teri Hatcher, previously reflected on her time making Desperate Housewives and revealed that she does not envision a revival happening.

Given how Desperate Housewives ended and how its resolution was received, it is hard to imagine what kind of story would bring all the characters back. John Rowland’s actor, Jesse Metcalfe, recently shared his own idea for a Desperate Housewives revival involving a younger cast, but centering the series on a new group of women may not result in the same level of success. Longoria’s comments about reprising her role likely provide some relief that she will return should a reboot happen.

Discussions of a Desperate Housewives revival have been circulating for some time, but it does not appear that anything is in the works. In the show’s conclusion, Gabrielle had her own business and television series. Although it could be interesting to see what the character and others are doing now, Desperate Housewives did manage to wrap up those stories well.
