I Can’t Believe How Many Amazing TV Shows We’re Going To Have In 3 Months

We live in the era of peak television, proven by the overwhelming number of exciting shows premiering in just a few short months. June 2024 is shaping up to be an entertaining and highly anticipated period for television enthusiasts, given the various series that are returning for new seasons or debuting their first episodes throughout the month. From Emmy-winning shows to new additions to prominent franchises, those who love television will have their hands full trying to keep up with all the releases (which is never a bad thing, especially since there is time to prepare for their arrival).

The contemporary Golden Age of Television has been full of numerous acclaimed shows, and the number of exceptional series grows with each passing year. While many shows are expected to return in 2024 following the end of the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the television slate for June is distinctly impressive. Perhaps the lack of premieres in late 2023 makes the upcoming releases seem overwhelming (in a good way), but television lovers will undoubtedly be happy when June 2024 arrives.

All The Huge TV Shows Expected To Release In June 2024

Several highly-anticipated television shows are expected to debut new (or first) seasons in June 2024. Among the upcoming series are The Bear season 3, which is coming off a successful outing at the Emmys, The Boys season 4, House of the Dragon season 2, and many others. Fortunately, most June television shows will likely premiere on different days, allowing fans to catch their breath between binges. However, the bad news is that a handful of the June series do not have specific release dates yet.

Based on the aforementioned upcoming shows, June is a candidate for the biggest month for television in 2024. February was noteworthy, with the premieres of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, Shōgun, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. However, June has acclaimed series like The Bear, The Boys, House of the Dragon, and more that are expected to return with new episodes. Meanwhile, highly-anticipated shows like The Acolyte and Presumed Innocent are debuting in June. Plus, June is three months away, meaning that networks and streaming services could still announce they are releasing more exciting series during those 30 days.

The Acolyte is an upcoming Disney+ show, and it feels as though it is the most exciting Star Wars series in years. The Acolyte takes place at the High Republic era’s end (more than 100 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace) and tells the story of a former Padawan, played by Amandla Stenberg, reuniting with her Jedi Master, played by Lee Jung-jae, to investigate crimes. Meanwhile, the other new June show is Presumed Innocent, an Apple TV+ thriller from David E. Kelley, the creator of Big Little Lies, that stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Negga.

These new television series and the returning successful shows indicate that it will be hard to beat June’s schedule. However, many other popular series expected to premiere this year don’t have release dates yet. For example, Squid Game season 2, Cobra Kai season 6, The Night Agent season 2, Outer Banks season 4, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, Outlander season 8, What We Do in the Shadows season 4, and more are set to debut in 2024. So, perhaps another month will beat out June as the most exciting period for television enthusiasts, but for now, June is the frontrunner.

June 2024’s Releases Show How Much TV Has Changed

While the television release slate for June 2024 is exciting, it also indicates how much the medium has changed over the course of the past few years. The summer months were typically dead zones for shows, as the most popular ones were on hiatuses between seasons. Highly anticipated premieres were never scheduled for June. But streaming is becoming (if it hasn’t already) the dominant way to distribute content, meaning that services have more free rein when they can release projects. Consequently, summer is now a popular time to debut television shows, and June 2024 will be one for the ages.
