Hunters Season 2 Details Reveal Hunt For Hitler After Three-Year Wait

More details about Hunters season 2 have been revealed by David Weil. In addition to creating the series, Weil also serves as a writer and executive producer. The upcoming season will stream on Amazon Prime after a three-year-long wait, set to release in January 2023. It was recently announced that the series was not renewed for a third season and would end after its second chapter.

During an interview with EW, Weil revealed details about the upcoming season, particularly about Hunters‘ new focus on the hunt for Hitler. In order to prevent the rise of the Fourth Reich, the Nazi hunters at the center of the series will pursue him across the globe and hopefully, wipe him out for good. On par with the last season, he assured that there would be “disruption” and an “exploding” of stereotypes. He emphatically promised that catharsis — a prime theme in the series overall — would be delivered. Take a look at the full quote below:

“For me, as a kid growing up on Long Island, being Jewish, there was always this frustration and anger that Hitler got away with his crimes, that he was never brought to justice, he was never arrested, killed, tried, that he made a decision at the end of his life. So Hunters, being a show about catharsis, about Jewish empowerment, and about wish fulfillment for Jewish kids like me who grew up wanting to reclaim power, season 2, I hope, will be that catharsis… I would only ever invoke Hitler if we’re going to deliver justice in some hopefully satisfying way.”

How Hunters Season 2 Will Incorporate Al Pacino’s Character

Hunters Season 2 Details Reveal Hunt For Hitler After Three-Year Wait

Characterized as an alternate-history drama, Hunters season 1 followed Jonah Heidelbaum (Logan Lerman) and his entrance into the Hunters, after the death of his grandmother Ruth. A mathematical genius, he quickly proves useful to the group with his ability to break codes. The season closed with two revelations: the first being that Meyer Offerman (Al Pacino), the leader of the Hunters and whom Jonah believed to be his grandfather, is actually “The Wolf,” the Nazi doctor who tortured Ruth and the second being that Hitler and “Colonel” Eva Braun are in hiding but alive.

Despite his death in season 1, Pacino’s Meyer will still have a large role to play in Hunters season 2. A parallel storyline to the hunt for Hitler, Meyer’s story will take place in the past as he originates and recruits the Hunters. Weil shared that showing the past would illustrate the link between Meyer and Jonah as they face a “similar darkness.” Given Meyer’s shocking identity twist in the tenth episode, this storyline will offer viewers the chance to explore who the character really is and provide more of an explanation for his actions. Pacino’s legendary status, of course, also marks his return as a cast member quite welcome.

Hunters set itself apart in its first season, partially because of its controversial nature and graphic violence, but also with its impactful, thought-provoking content and style. Though it mainly features a fictional plot and characters, these very elements were inspired by actual Nazi hunters and real-life events like Operation Paperclip. While it’s certainly disappointing to hear that two chapters are all Hunters‘ viewers will get, at least they’ll rest assured that the final season will be one unforgettable ride.
