Hulu’s The Great Season 2 Trailer Reveals Release Date

A new trailer for Hulu’s satirical comedy-drama The Great season 2 reveals a November release date. The Great, which is very loosely based on the historical rise to power of Catherine the Great, stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult. The Great started as a stage play by Tony McNamara, whose other writing credits range from The Favourite to Cruella. McNamara then adapted his story for Hulu’s series. The first season of The Great comprised of 10 episodes, all of which were released on Hulu in May 2020, and received multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

Now Hulu has released a trailer for season 2 of the series, revealing that it will premiere on November 19, 2021. The trailer shows Fanning’s now-pregnant Catherine continuing in her quest to take over the throne from Hoult’s charismatic and infuriating Emperor Peter III. It also reveals a glimpse of The Crown’s Gillian Anderson, no stranger to playing historical characters, in her new role as Johanna, Catherine’s mother. Watch the season 2 trailer below:

In addition to Fanning, Hoult, and now Anderson, The Great features an impressive cast including Phoebe Fox, Sacha Dhawan, Charity Wakefield, Gwilym Lee, Adam Godley, and Douglas Hodge. The new trailer also shows off the sumptuous sets and intricate costumes viewers will remember from season 1, as well as the series’ trademark wit. While November may seem a while to wait, Hulu has put together an impressive line-up of original content premiering over the next few months, such as the new series Reservation Dogs from Taika Waititi, so fans of The Great will have plenty to keep them busy until season 2.
