The cast of Death and Other Details has many familiar faces, among them a frequent collaborator of Mike Flanagan, who is breaking a four-year TV show streak with this project. The latest addition to Hulu’s list of mystery drama TV series is Death and Other Details, created by Heidi Cole McAdams and Mike Weiss. Death and Other Details takes the audience to a luxury cruise liner as they accompany Imogen Scott (Violett Beane), who isn’t prepared for what’s to come on said trip.
Imogen soon finds herself at the wrong place at the wrong time and becomes the prime suspect in a locked-room murder mystery. To prove her innocence, and showing confidence in her skills, Imogen tries to solve the mystery but is forced to partner with a man she’s not really fond of: Detective Rufus Cotesworth (Mandy Patinkin). Also part of the cast of Death and Other Details is Rahul Kohli, who plays Sunil Bhandari, the owner of the cruise ship the series is set on, and with this role, Kohli is breaking an impressive four-year TV show streak in two ways.
Death & Other Details Is Rahul Kohli’s First Non-Mike Flanagan TV Show Since 2020
Although Rahul Kohli’s acting career began in 2007 with the short film The Vacancy, moving into TV in 2008 in one episode of My Holiday Hostage Hell, he got his big break in 2015 when he played Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti in the TV series iZombie. Kohli later played Jack Spheer in Supergirl, voiced Jonathan Crane in Harley Quinn, and Mr. Aarhus Cheena in The Rocketeer, but he’s now best known for his work with director Mike Flanagan.
Kohli has become one of Flanagan’s most frequent collaborators and a favorite of the audience thanks to his performances in Flanagan’s TV shows, beginning with Netflix’s horror TV series The Haunting of Bly Manor, in 2020, where he played Owen Sharma. The following year, he played Sheriff Hassan in Midnight Mass, in 2022 he had a one-episode appearance in The Midnight Club as Vincent Beggs, and most recently, in 2023, Kohli played Napoleon Usher in The Fall of the House of Usher. Death and Other Details is the first non-Flanagan TV project Kohli has been a part of since 2020, breaking an interesting four-year streak.
Death & Other Details’ Reviews Ruin Another Rahul Kohli Streak After His Mike Flanagan Shows
Death and Other Details is not just breaking Kohli’s Flanagan TV show streak but also another, not-so-flattering streak. At the time of writing, after three episodes, Death and Other Details has a 55% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, earning it the label of “rotten”, though its audience score is way different at 88%. So far, critics have pointed out Death and Other Details’ lack of “cohesiveness in the bigger picture”, but it’s to be seen if its score can improve after the rest of the episodes are released.
In contrast, Kohli’s Flanagan TV projects were all labeled “fresh” by critics on Rotten Tomatoes: The Haunting of Bly Manor has an 88% score, Midnight Mass has an 87% score, The Midnight Club holds an 86% score, and The Fall of the House of Usher has the highest score with 90%. Of course, the score of Death and Other Details isn’t indicative of the quality of Rahul Kohli’s performance, just the overall result of the series, but its critical reception is a curious and drastic change from his previous TV shows.
