Hulu released the first trailer for its new horror movie No One Will Save You, which may revitalize the terror of the alien abduction subgenre. While there has been no shortage of alien horror movies in recent decades, such as those in the Alien, Predator, A Quiet Place, and The Thing franchises, the threat of the creatures actually trying to abduct people isn’t always a staple. Rather, much of the horror involves humans in life-or-death battles with aliens that omit the fears of an actual abduction. Additionally, even some of the greatest sci-fi alien movies that edge on horror, such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, may not actually use the alien abductions in a nightmare-inducing manner.
However, Hulu’s new movie No One Will Save You is utilizing this alien movie element while prioritizing its horrific nature. No One Will Save You, which premieres on Hulu on September 22, follows an isolated young woman living in her childhood home who experiences a home invasion at the hands of aliens. The film’s eeriness combines the notable horror-thriller home invasion premise with the concept of an alien invasion and abduction, showcasing the talents of Dopesick actress Kaitlyn Dever. From the sequences and tone revealed in the trailer for No One Will Save You, which features a character being levitated into a UFO, the film looks to be building on decades of alien invasion horror movies with a fresh, terrifying tale.
No One Will Save You Looks Way Better Than Decades Of Scary Alien Abduction Movies
Alien horror movies is no new concept, but No One Will Save You is shaping up to be the high-quality, anxiety-inducing, horror-centric entry that has long been missing. There have been various alien abduction horror movies in the recent decades, but many focusing on this element with a horror prioritization haven’t been of great quality. While Jordan Peele’s 2022 alien movie Nope was a brilliant sci-fi thriller, the film also integrated significant comedy while focusing more on suspense than scary horror elements. Similarly, the critically acclaimed 2020 movie Fried Barry was a better example of a sci-fi-comedy hybrid than horror.
The 1993 movie Fire in the Sky is one of the greatest examples of an alien abduction horror movie, which is supposedly based on the much-questioned real experiences of a man being taken and experimented on by extra-terrestrial beings. The 1989 film Communion is similar to Fire in the Sky, which both struggle to find a balance between being scary and campy in their alien abduction stories. However, Hulu’s No One Will Save You seems to maintain a consistent horror-thriller tone as the terror of the aliens and the anxiety of the invasion and abduction threaten the protagonist.

Since acquiring 20th Century Studios, Disney has landed the rights to some crucial horror franchises, including Alien and Predator. Hulu’s Prey arrived in 2022 as a thrilling horror movie about a Predator arriving in the early 18th century, with the film being a massive hit with critics and audiences alike. Prey’s success has already increased the anticipation for Disney’s new Alien movie from Fede Alvarez, with Hulu’s new extra-terrestrial horror movie making the case for a terrifying new entry in the 44-year-old franchise. Given Alvarez’s horror resume with frightening movies like Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe as well as Hulu’s new genre entry with No One Will Save You, Disney’s upcoming Alien reboot could revitalize the franchise with one of its scariest installments yet.
