Hulu’s Biggest & Most Acclaimed Comedy Will Air On ABC For The First Time

Only Murders in the Building will soon air on ABC for the first time. Starring Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Selena Gomez, Only Murders in the Building is one of Hulu’s most popular comedy shows. The series has so far run for three seasons, with Only Murders in the Building season 4 is set to premiere on January 2.

Following the success of the show, Only Murders in the Building season 1 is set to get a release on ABC. As per Variety, the show will get a series-first broadcast run come January. The episodes will air in three-episode chunks on January 2, January 9, and January 16, before airing its hour-long finale episode on January 23.

Only Murders In The Building Has Been An Immense Success – So How Will It Fare On ABC?

Only Murders in the Building remains one of Hulu’s most successful comedies on their platform in both popularity and critical reviews. The show has been nominated for copious Emmy Awards, winning three in 2022 for Production Design, Outstanding Guest Actor for Nathan Lane, and Outstanding Sound Mixing. The series is also vying for multiple Emmys this year, including Outstanding Comedy Series.

Branching into broadcast television, however, is new for Only Murders in the Building. The show’s episodes are typically variable in length, ranging anywhere from 29 minutes to 40 minutes. ABC reportedly will adapt to this structure by breaking only a single time for commercials, allowing the series to maintain its length. With the broadcast airing, however, Only Murders in the Building will still need to try to draw an audience to watch the show on-air.

Despite the death of Paul Rudd’s Ben Glenroy in Only Murders in the Building season 3, another character’s fate is much more intriguing.

Broadcast airing can be a viable strategy even for streaming shows. Yellowstone saw immense success during its CBS airing, leading the network to run the first episodes of fellow Western series Lawmen: Bass Reeves, even though the latter show is available on Paramount+. Only Murders in the Building viewers are also already used to a once-a-week release structure (rather than the full-season dumps typified by a streamer like Netflix), making the show’s transition to broadcast easier. Hopefully, this release strategy will pan out for Only Murders in the Building season 4 as its January release nears.
