Hulu Sets Official Date For Password-Sharing Crackdown & Clarifies What It Means For Subscribers

Hulu has set an official date for their password-sharing crackdown, clarifying what this means for subscribers when it goes into effect. Initial talk of the streaming service confronting password-sharing was reported in August 2023, when Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed intentions to crack down on both Hulu and Disney+. While this was previously announced last year, it was unclear when sharing passwords would be addressed by the streamer.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Hulu will be cracking down on password-sharing starting March 14. In an email to subscribers, they indicate that, unless noted by one’s subscription tier, the streamer must only be accessed in one’s household. Failure to comply could result in their account being banned. Check out what Hulu’s email said about the crackdown below:

Unless otherwise permitted by your Service Tier, you may not share your subscription outside of your household. ‘Household’ means the collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein.

We may, in our sole discretion, analyze the use of your account to determine compliance with this Agreement. If we determine, in our sole discretion, that you have violated this Agreement, we may limit or terminate access to the Service and/or take any other steps as permitted by this Agreement.
