Huge Invincible Comic Change Means 1 Character May Actually Be Dead For Real

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 2, episode 6 and the comics!

Invincible season 2, episode 6 just made one huge change to the original comics, but this switch means that one character could actually be dead for real. Invincible is a show that tends to stay fairly accurate to its source material, with most of the changes having to do with updating the story for modern audiences. However, Invincible season 2 contians one massive change that is nowhere to be founds in the original comics, with this having implications that could mean an even bigger Invincible change will appear down the road.

Invincible season 2, part 2 is finally here, with the highly anticipated continuation of Amazon Prime Video’s critically acclaimed animated adaptation of the superhero comic of the same name now releasing on the streaming service. Invincible season 2, part 2 picks up right where Invincible season 2, part 1 ended, with Mark Grayson returning home from Thraxa in order to help the Guardians of the Globe stop the Sequid invasion of Earth. Episode 6 picks up after three Guardians were massacred by the Lizard League, with it revealing the tragic fates of the fallen Guardians.

Shrinking Rae’s Survival Means Her Comic Death Might Be Given To Dupli-Kate

Huge Invincible Comic Change Means 1 Character May Actually Be Dead For Real

Shrinking Rae and Dupli-Kate are the two members of the Guardians of the Globe who seemingly died in Invincible season 2, episode 5, but episode 6 revealed that this actually isn’t the case. The episode sees several soldiers appear at the U.S. military base, rescuing Rex Splode. However, Shrinking Rae is able to climb out of the corpse of Komodo Dragon, revealing that she actually didn’t die. In the comics, Shrinking Rae (named Shrinking Ray) isn’t seen again after being killed by Komodo Dragon, but the show is teasing that she could come back.

Invincible Season 3: Cast, Story, & Everything We Know

The Amazon Prime Video series Invincible shined during its first two seasons, and here’s everything we know about the upcoming season 3.

Revealing that Shrinking Rae didn’t die in Invincible season 2, episode 5 is good news, as the character has been expanded on in Amazon’s adaptation. However, this also implies that her comic death could also be given to Dupli-Kate. In the comics, Shrinking Ray is the one that stays dead, whereas Dupli-Kate later comes back, revealing that she had a clone stored in a safehouse. Bringing back both characters would undercut the drama of the Lizard League’s attack, and since Dupli-Kate hasn’t been revealed to be alive in the show, the character could end up staying dead.

What Dupli-Kate Dying Permanently Would Mean For Invincible’s TV Story

Permanently killing off Dupli-Kate seems like a possibility, and here’s what her death would mean for the story of the Invincible TV show. In the comics, Dupli-Kate gets married to Immortal, one of the leading members of the Guardians of the Globe. Her marriage to Immortal is one of the biggest aspects of their comic story, with them eventually having children and becoming closer friends with Mark and Eve. The Invincible show has already refrained from introducing this comic storyline, and killing Kate off means that it would never happen in the adaptation.

On top of that, a storyline that occurs right after Dupli-Kate’s deal involves the introduction of her brother, Multi-Paul. In the comics, Multi-Paul is a villain who attacks the Guardians in an attempt to avenge Kate’s death. This is when Kate reveals that she is secretly alive, stopping Paul’s attacks. If Dupli-Kate is truly dead, then the Invincible TV show will have to find a new way to end the Multi-Paul story. This would be a massive change from the source material, with the potential new Multi-Paul story being an interesting route for the show to go down.

Why Dupli-Kate Might Still Be Alive In Invincible Season 2

Although it is possible that Dupli-Kate could be permanently killed off in Invincible season 2 due to Shrinking Rae’s death, it also is possible that she might still be alive. This is mainly because Dupli-Kate’s role in the Invincible comics is much bigger than that of Shrinking Rae’s, and Rae can’t simply be substituted in for Kate. Some massive changes to the Invincible comics will have to be made in order to compensate for her death, meaning that she will probably come back.

Invincible Season 2 Part 2’s Surprise Character Return & Future Explained By Creator

Invincible season 2, part 2 features a surprise character’s return, with co-creator and producer Robert Kirkman addressing the important plot twist.

Invincible season 2, episode 6 also features Dupli-Kate’s funeral, with this further hinting that she will come back. Kate’s family is mentioned at the funeral, and this reference seems like a clear bit of foreshadowing to Multi-Paul’s appearance. If Invincible season 2 is already teasing the debut of this villain and his storyline, it only makes sense for Dupli-Kate to come back, with her grand Invincible return most likely happening sometime in the near future.
