Syfy is set to debut its Superman prequel series Krypton on Wednesday, March 21, and there are a variety of ways to watch it, including a few streaming services where you can stream Krypton free online. Being one of the most famous superheroes in the world, Superman and his surrounding characters have naturally been the subject of multiple TV shows, both live-action and animated. In the live-action realm, things of course began with the 1950s Adventures of Superman, starring George Reeves. There was then a Superboy syndicated series in the 80s, followed by Lois & Clark gaining popularity in the 90s. In more recent times, Smallville ran for 10 seasons on The WB/The CW, and now Supergirl currently soars on The CW herself.
Unlike those series, nobody tuning in for Krypton should be expecting to see Kal-El himself make an appearance, as the Syfy drama takes place roughly 200 years before the birth of the Man of Steel, an event that itself closely proceeds the destruction of Krypton as a planet. Krypton’s focus character is instead Seg-El (relative newcomer Cameron Cuffe), Kal-El’s grandfather. Krypton was developed for TV by Man of Steel and Batman V Superman writer David S. Goyer. Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) will serve as showrunner. For those looking to tune in to Krypton’s series premiere live, there are a variety of ways available to do so, detailed below.

In the United States: The most obvious way to watch Krypton in the U.S. is to watch the show live on Syfy, or on-demand later on the Syfy app. That doesn’t mean those without cable are out of luck though, as there are several avenues one can use to access Syfy via the internet. DirectTV Now, PlayStation Vue, Youtube TV, and Hulu Live all offer Syfy as part of their standard internet-based TV packages, which range in price between $30 and $40 per month. Sling TV also offers Syfy as part of its $25 Sling Blue service tier. In addition, most of the aforementioned streaming services offer a week free trial, allowing you to stream Krypton live onlione free or watch after the fact with a DVR add-on (also included in the free trials) without committing to a monthly package. Additionally, those not looking to subscribe to a service can buy ongoing next-day access to Krypton episodes on either Amazon, iTunes, or Google Play for a one-time fee. Currently, said fee is much less on Amazon at $18.99 for HD episodes, iTunes charges $24.99 for HD, and Google Play also charges $24.99.
In Canada: Krypton airs live each week on Space in Canada. Online viewing options for Krypton aren’t as plentiful up north as they are in the US, but Itunes does offer Canadian users the same one-time purchase option for the entirety of season 1, and it carries the same $24.99 price tag. Hopefully, Canada’s currently quite restrictive laws concerning TV will eventually change, and customers there will one day get to enjoy a wide selection of cable-free live streaming options.
In the United Kingdom: Bizarrely, despite being filmed in the UK, Krypton still has yet to be assigned a premiere date across the pond. Considering the eternal popularity of the Superman brand, it’s quite surprising that UK viewers will seemingly – as of this writing at least – not have any way to legally watch Krypton as its first season unfurls in the US. We’ll update this piece if that status changes.
