As AR technology advances, creators have a better variety of effects to work with. The tools to create AR effects have also become more accessible. Several free AR creation platforms have recently become available, many of which aim to be beginner-friendly.
TikTok’s AR creation platform Effect House has added support for AR effects that track users’ pets. Creators now have access to AR effects that work on humans, cats, and dogs, and can identify which is which. There are tutorials available on how to create AR filters with Effect House, which now include guides for getting started with the pet-tracking features. The ‘Face Inset’ function creates a cutout of the pet’s face and ears that can be mapped onto the user’s face. ‘Face Liquify’ can tweak the proportions of a pet’s face and body. There is also a ‘Head Tracker’ feature that tracks a virtual object on the pet’s head. Each of these new features can be used by creators to make all kinds of effects with their original assets. TikTok users can find these effects by launching the TikTok app, tapping the + icon at the bottom of the screen, then selecting ‘Effects‘ to search for available filters.
Create & Share TikTok AR Effects For Pets
The pet-tracking features on Effect House currently work on cats and dogs, with some difficulty distinguishing between a person and a dog. These effects do not yet include support for other animals, although some effects might work depending on how the algorithm identifies that pet’s features. While there are still some limitations on what is possible with the effects, it is encouraging to see these new features become available.
With pets and AR effects both already being a popular subject for viral trends on TikTok, it will be interesting to see how users on the platform engage with these new AR pet-tracking features.
